Ford testing something "obvious" for future model years of Bronco

I was reading The Drive's article "The Ford Bronco Has Been Secretly Benchmarking Upgrades at Baja Races for Years." In it, Ford's Seth Goslawski tells The Drive how the motor company has been using this race to test upgrades that have made it onto the Bronco in future model years, something we've covered back in 2022 in our own interview with co-driver Jamie Groves. Read about Ford's covert NORRA testing in 2023 Wildtrak Gets HOSS 3.0 Standard.

The team is repeating their Baja run in April, and Seth tells The Drive there will be something significant they'll be testing.

“I wish I could say but I can’t,” Goslawski said. “It’ll be obvious. I’ll state that!”

SOOooOoo... What do we think it is, Bronco Nation?

😂 I was actually going to say a V-8. Not that I think that is going to happen.
Maybe a better suspension?

Are yours bad? I never have had a whistle there, but I know there was at least one TSB (technical service bulletin) for 2021s and some dealerships have fixed others by applying missing weatherstripping. Has your dealer checked it out?

Mine only whistles during cold weather, and obviously when the heater fan is blowing. So im sure its to do with the gaskets/seals shrinking due to cold weather.

Hopefully i get a response something like this... "You didnt buy a $150,000 Lincoln Navigator Black Label.. you bought an amazing offroad, 4 wheel drive with a removable top bada$$ Bronco, what did you expect? " 😄

hybrid, completely flat floor, bottle opener in the 2 door, and more conveniently located around the Aux switches 😉, heated headlights for certain states, lay flat tailgate, fake v8 sound piped in thru the speakers, better color options, less recalls, 2 door on a 4 door chassis with a bed, and last but not least we need better grocery bag hangers in the rear like other SUVs.... cause we all know they be hauling them groceries 🤣😂

That would be interesting.

Do any 2 doors get the rear track bar now? All of them? I know when the 4-door got it (https://thebronconation.com/which-bronco-series-have-the-rear-sway-bar-in-2022/), and I feel like Ford introduced it for 2-doors too, but I can't remember now. Anyone remember if/when?

2 door still do not get the rear sway bar... My experience (my opinion) they really do not need it....

They all get a track bar though... they have to. The rear end is a 5 link.... Only way to eliminate the 5th link is to go triangulated... Period...

Now the Watts linkage is a really nice upgrade to the track bar (5th link) It eliminates any and all rear end kick out that is typical with a pan hard rod. They have been running a Watts on the Ranger Raptor for a couple years now with very positive reviews.... This is most beneficial at higher speeds that require articulation like desert running.

Down side is that it really complicates lifting the vehicle. The center pivot of the Watts has to be raised as well AND that changes the roll point. People will find work arounds that will work to varying degrees of success... But that is going to cost money. It will be interesting to see the different solutions. I have not been following the solutions for the Ranger Raptor but I am sure there are several.

Thanks for that reminder (and reminder inside a reminder that track bar/panhard ≠ sway bar). And for answering my next question, if Ford is using that on any of their other vehicles right now.

As mentioned in this thread during the winter when the seals shrink, yes very bad. This morning with a temp of 22 and WC of 10 I thought I heard the Globe Trotters theme. This was a bad idea, it adds to wind noise anytime, the electric motor moving the window every time the door opens and close. This was a bad decision and poor engineering. I have looked up the stats for doors off on the trail, that is not accurate according to the Ford stats.

Yeah, I've seen plenty of doors off for off-road, but I've seen them stored in the back maybe ONCE, where the frameless could come into play, and I could be hallucinating even that.

Personally, I think the frameless doors look better, especially when you're looking at a 4-door Jeep without a body-matched top vs. a 4-door Bronco, but if they don't function well, looks don't mean a ton.

3.0L V6 in a 2 door!

Honestly, I cant believe someone hasn't bought a HO 3.5 Ecoboost from a F150 Raptor and crammed it in there. Im not 100% sure it'd fit, but if that one company got a 5.0 to fit, after chop, cut, rebuild. Surely a 3.5 eco would squeeze in there. Considering a 5.0 is the largest, if not one of the widest engines on the market.

You mean people do not want there doors beating and banging around in the back of the bronco on the trails? 😂

Myself, before id do that id just leave them on, and let the paint on the doors match the paint on The fenders. Incomplete pinstripes look horrible..🫣

Easily fixed with a set of keys. You won't even have to do it yourself -- just park poorly and upset someone.

Yeah, doors in the back is a no-go for me even if I could. I have put panels in the back though when I decided it was nice enough.
