Anyone know why Ford claims the winch package can't be added to a modular bumper that was not added at the factory. It's right on fords page that it must be a factory installed modular bumper. My parts guys and techs at my dealership have know idea either. I've picked up a modular take off and Ford performance winch package to replace my capable bumper on my 23 wildtrak. Hope I haven't screwed up.

It may have to do with the air bag calibration. I know when I had my winch installed just before delivery, the service folks had to re-flash for the air bags. I should add that I have Lux, so I turned off my front parking sensors, I had to relocate the adaptive cruise control module with aftermarket bracket which worked great, and I moved my front trail camera to the front winch bar which works fine but I could have just left it where it was.

@Mikey Smith's hunch is correct. It has to do with the safety restraint system calibration.
The programming for that safety restraint system is only available if you have a factory modular bumper. Physically, there is nothing to stop you from doing it.
Also you will have to use one of the up-fitter switches to get power to the winch. My winch is always hot there is no switch on the Glades. not a big deal but.

The Ford/Warn winch does not include Warn's relay kit. The "relay" is basically no different than what was used all on cars years ago. I installed the relay, and then used the far right up-fitter switch to power the relay. I did not want the winch to be powered hot at all times.

The Ford/Warn winch kit, model M-1821-B, has included instructions that state the Restraint Module must be re-programmed after the winch is installed. (See pages 30 and 31.) And the kit includes a sticker-label that the installer is supposed "to place on the underside of the mounting plate".

RagnarKon- haha, actually not a hunch. After 34 years, I'm a Ford truck engineering retiree. I still live about 8 miles from the Bronco plant, and know most of the launch team there. I was able to achieve authorization to watch mine being built.

Well you shoulda told me this like a year ago so I could have piggy-backed off of your connections. I wanted to see mine built too!
