Ford Bronco To Gain Horsepower, Torque Via Upcoming Power Packs

Ford Performance has been offering custom calibrations for a wide variety of models including the Ford Focus ST and Ford Mustang for years now, giving owners the chance to unlock more power from their rides while also maintaining all factory warranties. These calibrations have proven to be popular for that very reason, along with the fact that they’re coming from the manufacturer itself – not some random shop. Now, sources familiar with the matter have told Ford Authority that the Ford Bronco will be getting two different Power Pack calibrations from Ford Performance as well.

Both of these calibrations will be available in 2022 – one for the Ford 2.3L EcoBoost I-4, and one for the 2.7L EcoBoost V6. The 2.7 Power Pack will launch first with the part number M9603-B27, followed by the 2.3 calibration later on, which will be listed in the Ford Performance catalog with the part number M9603-B23. No additional details are available for the 2.7 calibration as of this writing, but the 2.3 tune is expected to be similar to what is currently offered for the Ford Ranger, though the focus with the Bronco calibration is on torque – not peak horsepower – to aid in off-road conditions.
Sources tell Ford Authority that the Ford Bronco 2.3 Power Pack could net gains of around 25 horsepower and 30-40 pound-feet of torque for Ford’s I-4. The Ranger’s Power Pack provides an extra 45 horsepower and 60 pound-feet of torque from the same powerplant and optimizes the shift schedule for Ford’s 10-speed automatic transmission, but also comes with a Ford Performance high-flow K&N air filter.

Ford’s existing performance calibrations are emissions legal in all 50 states, and also come with a warranty. If the calibration causes an issue on a vehicle within 3 years or 36,000 miles, Ford will fix the vehicle under warranty. If the performance calibration did not cause the issue, the base Ford warranty still applies. The kit needs to be installed by an A.S.E. certified shop or Ford dealer to qualify for this coverage, however.

The 2.3 Ecoboost in the Mustang has a similar kit (M-9603-M4C). For the Mustang, the kit costs $675 retail. This kit adds 35HP at 2900 RPM and 76 Lb/Ft of Torque at 2600 RPM and it keeps the factory warranty intact (when dealer installed). I would expect the Bronco kit to be similarly priced.

That's a hell of a bargain, 35/76 for $675? All. Day. Long.

The only downside to the Mustang kit is that you must use premium fuel. The kit also includes (what Ford calls) a High Flow Performance Air Filter.
The specs on my 18 list the 2.3 Mustang at 310 HP and 350 lb-ft of torque (stock, as per www.mustangspecs.com), the kit bumps those numbers to 345 HP and 426 LB/FT torque. Not too shabby! I believe the Bronco will have higher torque numbers, but who knows. I'm sure we'll find out soon.

If you think about it, with a forced induction engine (turbo/supercharger), the tune is going to increase air (boost), fuel and probably mess with the spark. The reason premium fuel is used to to prevent pre-detonation (knock). More fuel + more air = higher pressure & temp --> higher octane fuel required. I know it sucks to pay $0.50-$1.00/gal more for gas but performance ain't cheap. Cheers.

The 2.7 doesn’t need any help. Plenty of power for the Bronco.

We have the 2.7 in our 2019 F150 Supercrew 4x4 and our 2020 Edge ST.

The Ranger kit ( M9603REB ) adds 45 HP @ 4,500 RPM and 60 lb/ft @ 2,500 RPM. The retail price is $825 at the Ford Accessories site (Ranger 2019-2021 EcoBoost Power Pack Performance Calibration ~ M9603REB (ford.com) . I would expect the Bronco specs and price to be similar.

Would be nice to combine this with the Roush CAI and cat catback exhaust system.

Agreed. My 2018 f150 reg cab long bed 4x4 is almost over powered by the 2.7. It actually matches older f150's I transplanted 429 big blocks into. But there's always those people who always want more so whatever floats their boat. Just nice there will be factory and after market support for our broncos.

More power while retaining a warranty, take my money now. Would be nice however if Ford included the upgrade from the factory as a gesture of good will.

I rather see the factory offer it. The grease monkeys at the dealer will find a way of screwing it up.
