I have a 2.7 Badlands. Looking at the Flowmaster axle-back mufflers. Has anyone installed, which model, pros/cons?

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave,
I have the 2 dr, 2.3 MT, and I installed the Flowmaster FlowFX cat back exhaust. This exhaust system is an excellent upgrade that adds a nice rumble to the sound of your truck. They tuck up nicely, look great, and definitely add a bit more punch to your overall power.
I know you have the 4dr, but note that you may have the same issue that I did. I installed it myself, and according to the installation instructions for my 2dr., I needed to shorten the mid-pipe 15 &3/4 inches. Unfortunately, as it turned out, I really needed to shorten it 16 3/4 inches. This difference caused me to get it all in place, only to realize that I need to take another inch off to make it fit like a glove. It added another 1 hour to the install.
Overall, a big difference to the sound of my 2.3, so I can only imagine that it will make your 2.7 sound even better.

Thanks for the information about the install. I was looking at the FLowFX as well. I will contact them to see if the 4 dr. requires the same cut length. If you have time could you add a couple pictures of the rear of your truck?

Is there much more noise inside the cab with this exhaust? Do you have to turn up the radio more, talk louder, etc.?

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave, I attached a couple of photos for you.
As to your questions, they are definitely louder than the stock system, but I think that is a good thing. You will hear the difference, but not to the extent that you need to turn the radio up or talk louder. It provides a much throatier rumble, and you can listen to it on this link...

Thanks for the pictures and feedback. I have watched a lot of the Flowmaster videos. I was looking forward to your response of an actual owner. Thanks for that. Did you ever wish you had purchased the American model exhaust instead of the FlowFX?

Living in BC you must have a lot of great mountains to climb. I spent 3 weeks in NW Montana, Troy/Yaak area and in Bonners Ferry, ID. Sure beats the flat lands of MI. Thanks again.

You are most welcome. That is the beauty of this forum, ask and you shall receive.
As to the American model, being a Canadian, I just could not bring myself to purchasing that model ๐Ÿ˜. Truth be told, the American is listed as an "aggressive" sound, vs the FlowFX as a "moderate" sound. I think the American might be just a tad too loud. Based on my experience with the FlowFX.
As to 4x4'ing in B.C., we indeed have some great mountains to explore, and they can be very challenging, in a very different way to a lot of the U.S.A. Very steep, tight, rooty, muddy and just plain fun. Plus, you get yourself into some absolute wilderness with very little effort.
I have done a bit of 4x'ing in Troy, a very beautiful area, and one that I would definitely go back to. In regards to MI., it is one of the few states that I have not visited, and I must admit that you are not selling it to me, ๐Ÿค”.

According to the Flowmaster video the American is moderate, then the FLowFX, I think the next was the Outlaw, and then the model that is just a single pipe. I hope someday the American snub doesn't bite the Canadians in the pa-to-ti.

Oops, if that is the case, I apologize as I must have read their website wrong. I am still happy though that I got the FlowFX out of all their offerings. I get many compliments on the sound, so it is obviously not too loud to others. Oh, and I am not too worried that the Americans will ever snub us Canadians, we are just too damn polite ๐Ÿ˜

When I saw the thread title I thought, "What--is there a privy option for the Bronco?"

Dave,
I have the Flowmaster Outlaw catback muffler delete. A guy that was driving a Camaro at Costco gas station told me that my Bronco "sounded mean as hell".
Pretty much everyone that hears it likes it. It's loud. One good is thing now I have a ton of room where my muffler used to he for air tank, storage or whatever. But the best thing is the high mount pipe, won't catch on anything.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'm going with the American axle back. I think it will add the sound I like and I like the smaller muffler/single tail pipe, and how high it rides on the truck. Borla or Magnaflow maybe better, but I figure, if I have to I can but 2 of the Flowmaster's.
