Extremely happy with the Goodyear tires .....

.....that is until I got the notification. A couple of weeks ago I Took the Wildtrak on a dirt road near the Johnson Valley OHV nothing extreme just stretching the legs. (First 1000 miles), No issues super happy go lucky got home. The following morning I woke up to a notification of low air from the FordPass App. Got the spare tire on (lift with your legs ...lol ), and off to the Goodyear store. Thinking a quick bead reseat or repair patch. Was at the store for about 5 minutes and was called to the service bay.
Turns out I need a new tire because a "toothpick" pierced the side wall... 🤦🏻
Offending "toothpick"

White marks the spot

Closer look

I have owned Goodyear tires before and overall they have been good. This particular set does not make excessive road noise, and I was happy when the bronco came with them.

These tires do like to take little round souvenirs from the off-road session. They will spit it at your under body, door panels and preferably something that will make a loud ping nosie randomly. Just to remind you of the good times you had last week.

A week later.

Guys @ Ford,
Please look into a better tire for an all capable on-off-road SUV.

Guys @ GoodYear,
... I'm not mad, just disappointed.

I cant speak for others but I have had goodyears on my fords that I have purchased in past. They are OK tires and switched them ALL to BF KO2 and they are 10x the tire to me. I'm sure other good tires but I have never loved the goodyears.

I already knew. When my Wildtrak got home, it already had tires and wheels sitting in the garage ready to throw on. (use your leg indeed)

After several miles off pavement last weekend, I only heard a few rocks get thrown from the tires. I chose these Micky Thompsons partially because of their strong sidewalls.

I had a DD 2WD Tundra with GoodYears with Kevlar and we visited KOH twice. Did not do anything extreme but they held their own. I have heard good things about the KO2s. I will consider those. My son runs Falken Wildpeaks AT3ws and I am super impressed the only thing is road noise. On his rig its not super important (FJ60) it's a tractor lol

Yeah........ the Goodyears that come from the factory are C-rated tires that are super light weight for wheels of that size. Which means they are thin and squishy. Why? Fuel economy and ride comfort, at the expense of durability.

Which, honestly, was a smart move on Goodyear's part and exactly what the automobile manufacturers asked for in a factory tire. If they put "real" off-road tires on at the factory, everyone would complain about fuel economy, road noise, or ride comfort. First impressions are important and these tires are absolutely "first impression" tires.

Don't get me wrong... for what they are, they're decent tires. But it is yet another reason why I skipped the Sasquatch package.

I was looking at the Baja Boss the other day. How is the road noise on those?

I'm a mile and 1/2 from the pavement. The stone slinging has gotten better at about 9000 miles. Will not buy again, will probably go with Coopers...

I am just hoping to get some use out of them before I upgrade. On a lighter note my wife asked me if the truck was gonna fit in the garage….I said with the roof rack we are getting? No problem. She then said, “I know it will fit with the rack, but what about when you put a lift on it? Will you have a problem with parking it outside?” I just laughed, “Honey, I don‘t have any plans to put a lift on it” Then we both laughed🤣

Agreed....Goodyear and Ford both good companies. Goodyear does make better tires though, and they actually would have made a better first impression to a potential new brand owner. And as a business I would think they would want to create a life long customer, rather than give someone a bad taste and possibly hurting the brand by possibly spreading their bad experience. Not saying full on mud/rock crawling tires but a happy medium.

Funny fact that touches on what the manufacturer asked from Goodyear.

The tire on a Sas is LT31570R17 Territory Mts, and read GoodYear, GoodYear top and bottom. If you want to buy the same tire from the dealer you would get the one that reads GoodYear Wrangler.... Because that is the tire name. A little bird at the dealer said that's because Ford did not want the Jeep reference on a tire they were putting on an upgraded Bronco (of course this is unconfirmed and just want someone possibly trying to make sale said to me)

OP…Did you stop for lunch or dinner on your way home????

😁😁😁 I have it from a reputable source, he saw what “looked like” a jeep owner hammering what he believed was a sharpened wooden chop stick into your side wall… then he snapped off the remainder …(after it punctured through the sidewall)….
😡😡😡

The Goodyears are not your problem…
-👺evil,
-☠️hateful,
-🤢jealous,
-👹pin headed,
-🧟‍♂️vandals
…..that brag about their articulation prowess… They, are the most likely culpable of committing this crime!!!

Just saying😁😁😁!
