Anyone else getting an exhaust smell inside cabin? '21 BB 2.3l 4 door. If I keep a jacket, or even clothing in a suitcase in the back it has this crazy exhaust odor. Not sure if exhaust is coming back in through ven't behind spare tire or what, but it's pretty bad.

He has two posts one says burning electrical smell and the other exhaust. Maybe the coating burning off of the exhaust? Pretty sure carbon monoxide is odorless. I wonder how long he has had the vehicle?

Yes, on its own carbon monoxide is colorless and odorless. However, it is a product of combustion. Exhaust is not ordorless but has CO in it.

Good point Carbon Dioxide is odorless but other gasses in the exhaust would have odor. I don’t think the AC smell and exhaust smells are unrelatedly. But very well could be.

Any new car I’ve ever had has that weird smell of the new parts wearing in/ exhaust burning for the first time, so my guess is it would be that. But, I definitely agree to get it checked on for the reasons stated above. If there is a leak in the exhaust and it’s entering the cabin, that can become fatal.

6600 seems like the new car smells from the engine and exhaust would be worn off by now, so may be something else. Definitely take it in.

Also check the drain plug is installed properly under the rear cargo hatch door. Maybe its not installed and causing smell which is potentially why the smell is amplified when you put a jacket etc. over that area. Your muffler is right underneath the drain plug hole.

Yes , I’m starting to notice this on my 2023 Big Bend 4 door soft top, 2.3L. It has 1300 miles on it. Has anyone heard where or how this is getting into the cabin?

It’s a sign that something is wrong and that something is getting into your lungs. I wouldn’t drive it until you’ve had it looked at.

Hi Bluebend, were you able to find the source of this exhaust odor issue? Mine still has the issue at low speeds with the windows open. It even does it when the engine cold so it’s not material burning off the exhaust like my dealer diagnosed. I purchased a portable CO detector but thankfully the readings are zero CO.

I am getting the exhaust fume smell in my cab too! 23 OB 2.3L. Only after driving then coming to a stop or at low speeds. So much we need to open windows for fresh air. Definitely taking it back for warranty work. Was anyone successful in getting this resolved?

No fix yet, ours only does it with the windows open and at low speed. I‘ve taken it to two different Ford dealers and both gave me the same diagnosIs. “It’s manufacturing oil’s burning off the exhaust”. First of all, it’ll do it when it’s cold immediately after start up. Second, it has 5000 miles on it and has been driven in very hot weather. Any manufacturer oils are long gone. Now that’s it’s Winter, we’re in Michigan, I won’t be running with the windows down. I’ll wait and see what happens when the weather warms back up.
