Helping a friend modifying his Bronco, of which replacing the hood was part of the process. What I didn't know is that he bought the Bronco out of state. As you probably know the EPA sticker is under the factory hood and since the Bronco is out of state, it needs to have a VIN Verification inspection and smog certificate. The problem is that the smog shop needs to see the EPA sticker in order to perform the smog-test.

Does anyone know how one obtains a EPA sticker replacement? Local dealers don't seem to be of much help. Perhaps someone has a connection at Ford that can assist? Any help would be greatly appreciated

I should have said it earlier, he sold the original hood for cash to an unknown individual

I didnt know that about the sticker. I would contact the local dealer. People have to replace hoods from time to time so I imagine that there is a mechanism to replace that sticker.

Is this a yearly inspection requirement or a one-time thing for registration? that might change my answer.

The smog testing of cars & trucks in kalifornia is every 3 year (I think, it might be more often) however since this Bronco was brought into kalifornia (from New Mexico, I think) it is subject to a Vin Verification and it has to be smog tested. So yes, the Vin Verification is a one time thing, however the smog inspection is not a one time thing. The sticker has to be displayed whenever the smog test is required. I have a call into Ford 800-392-3673 and after waiting for about 10 minutes, I'm disconnected. That's special

In California new cars are exempt for the first five years and then it is every other year.

We do every two here in (coincidentally) New Mexico (or at least in Albuquerque, which is the only place the testing is required) but they just use a sniffer. If its a reoccurring test, I would jump through the hoops and get the sticker from Ford.

When i was stationed out in Hawaii, I had to go through their safety inspection program for my CJ. Basically if anything was changed from a stock set up, you had to get a special inspection sticker that was a real pain. The local jeep shop had a special relationship with an inspector who certified all the Jeeps that he was sent. I did not ask too closely about it. Maybe something like that is an option?

Let me say this: If you buy a car/truck outside of kalifornia, and you're bringing into kalifornia, think twice. It is a bit of a nightmare

After numerous calls to 800-392-3973 the Client Research Center there has now informed me that I need to talk to Ford Pro-Service Center at 800-343-5338

The Certificate I need is called the "Certificate of Conformity" as mentioned I don't have the certificate, yet Ford tells me I need the number off it to get a duplicate....Oh Boy

Sure am glad it's Friday

This is probably someone taking the faster route and buying one piece at a time off of Craigslist and building it himself in his garage. Probably gonna have it done before I get mine. :ROFLMAO:

That’s weird? I thought all new vehicles were made 50 state compliant. This is California’s way of discouraging people from bringing cars into the state whether compliant or not. And an additional way to get more money out of your pocket. Yet another fee to tack on. And you can’t deduct it off of your taxes. They don’t want gas powered vehicles. One more reason I left there. One of many.

There is also a mileage requirement to get out of state vehicles registered to prevent people from buying 49 state new cars out of state. you may have to go to a CARB “referee“ station to get this resolved.

I have 900 more days from today. In 900 days it will be 12/31/24 which is my last day of work. On 01/01/25 I fly out to either KY or TN, depending where I buy (before 12/31/24) and I'm never looking back

Right now as it stands, all I need is the Vin Verified and for it to smog. The Smog guy tested it, and it passed the test, but without the "Certificate of Conformity" it won't pass visual. The person doing the Vin Verification says he needs to record the "text number" off the Certificate of Conformity and the Vin Verification is done.

I'm now dealing with Ford Pro-Service Group at 800-343-5338 the only problem is that it has an auto-attendant answerer, and after 5 minutes it disconnects you. Rumor has it, the Pro-Service group are the ones who can resolve this. I just need to get lucky and call when someone live answers the phone

Why would the government or Ford for that matter make anything simple and easy it’s against their nature. Those Who control do what ever they what.

I would go and face to face with one of your local BODY SHOPS, I imagine that they would have all the information that you would need.
