Easy fuel tiny funnel madness

So I get points through gas station memberships and cheaper gas is good so I usually fill up some gas cans when I have a good discount and top off my truck. I just filled up Njordr from a gas can for the first time and this little funnel adapter thing from Ford sucks (My previous vehicles all had a regular or old gas cap / system). What are y'all doing to get around this thing? I'm sure the over landing crowd has something...

My dad does something similar and likes to top off my vehicles every so often. He still needs to use the Ford-supplied funnel for my Bronco, but he swears by this cheap pump from Harbor Freight, and it does seem to go easier since you can leave the can on a stool and it pumps quickly without going so fast it overwhelms the funnel.

That pump is a winner for the price. I have two since the first one I had started leaking. New one..... no leaks. Makes life refueling much nicer.

Oh yeah, I've seen those things. Looked cheap in the bad way, but I'll give it a shot since several of y'all like them. Thank you for your replies

The only issue I've bumped into is that many of the newer gas cans have a closed ended flame arrestor (FMD) inside.

You'll need to either completely remove the FMD filter or try to carefully remove it, cut the bottom of the FMD off, and reinstall it.. Removing the FMD to cut the bottom off is almost impossible as the FMD will more than likely get damaged in the process.

You'd need to do this regardless if it's a pump or a syphon hose..

Note: If you remove the FMD filter, you technically cannot legally transport fuel in them.. Thanks EPA

My RotoPax gas cans had have (wink - wink) the FMD filters and they were a serious PIA to remove..

I'm with you, @Njordr. I'm anticipating a warehouse chain (BJs) will give me $.50 discount up to 40 gals when my register tape hits $150--which I can do, easy. So I'll drive up empty with 4 5-gal cans. A few thoughts:
1) Before the transaction, I have all my cans out, caps off, so I don't accidently shut off the pump and lose my 2nd 20 gallons. This also signals people behind that I might be a little while.
2) Don't ever use any kind of "safety flow" "handy trigger" "No-Spill" or anything like that. I end up spilling a lot. This type of spout is the worst of all:

You want smooth, gravity flowing fuel--nothing with any kind of "release" mechanism.
3) I simply pack a good size funnel with a flexible gooseneck spout. I like this one:

I clicked on @Laura link for a gas pump, above. There's a coupon for it, good till June29, you can get it for $7.50.
And yeah, the Ford-provided funnel is a joke. Please, Lord, protect us from regulators and "safety engineers!"

I think I've managed to dodge the FMD filter.I like that goose neck for something to leave in the back during a road trip. Thank you.

Cool! If anyone has a RotoPax gas can and wants to remove the FMD, you'll need to add something like this:

https://ai13.us/products/pax-shipping-spacer?

Once you remove the FMD from the RotoPax it creates a tiny amount of extra space that could result in leaking fuel as the gaskets will no longer have a tight seal. Don't ask me how I know...

I can however vouch for the fact that this $6 'shipping spacer' works like a champ! It's not really a 'shipping spacer' as it stays in the RotoPax permanently..

I am a big fan of Ai13 as they make some great solutions for RotoPax cans..

I 😍 Harbor Freight. It's my go-to store. Very dangerous. Sometimes I'll just go there to see what's new. I get a kick out of their "Good/Better/Best" product rating system. I mean, who wants to settle on "Good" when you can have "Best?" Still haven't joined their Inside Track Club yet, but I'm considering it.

Insider is the way to go if you shop there often or make a large purchase.. You can get some massive discounts that will stack on top of existing sales.. One purchase alone can cover the $30 a year price.

I've been an insider club member for about 4 years now and every year it pays for itself..

Thanks for the recommendation, @raqball. I suspect I wouldn't regret joining. I pledge loyalty to very few stores, but Harbor Freight always lures me in. So does Tractor Supply. Weird name but cool place.

Harbor Freight gets a bad rap from some as being cheap junk but I've rarely ever had an issue with items purchased from them. I equate it to the same bad rap that Rough Country gets from some.

Maybe years and years ago HF and RC were selling junk but IMO, they've both upped their game. I've had almost zero issue when buying from either of those companies and have had little to no complaints with the items and gear I've purchased from them.

I hardly ever go to Tractor Supply but I might need to check them out.. 👍

I haven't had any problems with the items I've purchased from Harbor Freight. I do know they have an awesome return policy, though. I returned a couple of items over the years because I rushed to buy something and realized I could get something better from another source. They didn't even blink when I returned the items. All I needed was a receipt. That kind of buyer's assurance is priceless!
