After 19 months of waiting, an uninsured, unlicensed driver pulled out in front of me. I swerved and hit the brakes, but still clipped him. All his fault. I had owned it just about 3 weeks.
I've kept this quiet because at first I thought it might be totaled and then because there wasn't much to talk about as far as the repairs. I was in the dark for a bit.
Me? A couple of bruises and a laceration on my wrist from the plastic surrounding the airbags. My ear is still ringing pretty loudly from the BANG when they went off. Passenger side curtain also deployed.
It wouldn't start for about 20 minutes, it turns out that the fuel pump is disabled. My wife was able to google how to get it working again by pushing and holding a button on the steering wheel. I was able to drive it off the road, but the bumper was rubbing on the tire.
It's been a long process so far. It sat in a tow yard for several days until my insurance company had it towed to another yard for an estimate. This gave me time to research repair facilities and find one that could get my Bronco repaired in a timely manner. We had a big ice storm in December and it literally filled all of the local body shops to capacity. I called 19 different places, most said they wouldn't even be able to have it towed in until the second week of February.
It made it to the place I chose after another week sitting in my Insurance's yard. It sat there for a week or so until they could get to it to tear it down. The original estimate from my insurance company (visual inspection only) was about 4500 in damages. After they tore it down and had time to reinspect it at the body shop, another 9k of damages was added.
From the pics, you're gonna wonder how it incurred almost 14k worth of damages. Me too. Anyways. The air bags destroy the interior. The steering wheel one is an expensive fix, being part of the LUX package. The seat gets blown up because of the air bag in it. That one also destroys the door panel. The curtain destroys quite a bit of trim. It turns out, there are a million sensors that need replacing.
They had to replace the core support, turns out it's made of composite. (Thanks Ford) The fender will need replacement as well as paint. They will blend it with my door. (I am crying inside because of this)
So most of the delay at the body shop has been waiting on parts. They started showing up last week and the process has started. In the meantime, it sat outside in their yard in the rain with the door cracked and the window slightly down. GRRR!
I am supposed to get an update today, hopefully a date when they will be finished. The manager told me 2-3 more weeks as a worst case scenario on Monday.

I am not the leader. I just like to go first.
