CB Antenna Mount

I know I won't see this but if any Ford folks are listening can you look into a 2nd antenna mount for a CB. Most clubs still use this as their main forum to communicate on rides. If they had a mount, on the drivers side, with a cable there to connect would be nice.

On a second note, can anyone tell me if they used the existing top bolts on the rear tire carrier to attach a mount w/antenna, then run the cable through the hole in the door, and run the cable to the front?

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave, I found this one yesterday:
Aftermarket HQ on Instagram: “The FIRST AND ONLY Custom race radio/cb antenna mounts made specifically for the NEW 2021 @fordbronco Built in house with 2…”

I tried different mounting brackets on the spare tire carrier. The holes would fit but you need some spacers because there is not enough space between the bracket and tire when you mount back the tire.

I have high hopes of finding a bracket that attaches to the 2 bolts in the upper tailgate hinge. Prefer to stay away from the spare tire & the back up camera & third brake light.

The mirror cowl has an accessory ready bolt in order to install lights, antennas, or whatever. I’m looking for a mounting bracket myself for my GMRS system, but the cable needs to be run as well, it’s not pre-wired

Thanks, the mirror cowl could be the best location if there is an appropriate mount available.

I have a friend that owns a shop that can make the mount out of stainless. Not worried about that. Was just wondering what folks have found.

The Jeep mount is like the one I have on my 09 JK. It is a piece of stainless that mounts to the same two holes. It works very well. Thanks very much for the information. Greatly appreciated.

Will want a mount for both CB & GMRS. Still run with groups that use on or the other.

We mounted the antenna back there due to 1 the roof being removable and the antenna needing to be on a metal ground . We have lights mounted up by the A-pillar "cowl" next to the mirror . Baja designs XL80's which are pretty large in size . The antenna in the back in the center doesn't interfere with anything and that mount which was partially designed by baja designs needs to be removed to swap the tire in a flat situation anyways but it is fairly quick . We worked with PCI radios and had custom made cables with quick disconnects made for this mount . we do have another mount coming for the door hinge area as well but, working on cable routing at this time .

I sure like that Hooke mount, I wonder if the bolt/hole spacing is the same on the bronco? Surely we can't be that lucky...

You might want to check out https://reddotengineering.com/product/bronco-flag-cb-antenna-mount-off-of-the-tail-gate-hinge-bolts/ I have these on mine and my wife's Broncos. The pic isn't my Bronco but it is the mount. It was purchased for a flag at the dunes but it does have two holes so you could mount both I suppose.

A different spin on the original ?? Can you use the same antenna for a CB & GMRS radio? If the answer to this is yes, can or is there a splitter for an antenna cable that would allow you to use the same antenna for both radios. Can you put a splitter on the antenna cable and switch to the radio in use?

Thanks,
Dave

Short answer is no. Long answer is, you could run one antenna for monitor only, but if you transmit, the antenna has to be frequency matched to the radio. CB operates around 20 or 40 Mhz I think, while GMRS is around 460. That being said, there are NMO adapters that make switching out the antenna trivial. On my jeep, the connector end of the cable goes to a female-female barrel connector. When I want to use GMRS, I have an NMO thread adapter, and then screw on the gmrs antenna. If I want to switch to CB, i unscrew the adapter and put the other adapter on to make it work. The coaxial wiring doesn't have to change, so if you do some planning up front, you could switch out which radio you equip in your rig and also switch out the antenna and everything would be fine.

One challenge though, CB antennas tend to be huge and fragile, so you need to mount it somewhere it wont get bashed by trees or whatever.

I ran my coax for my 3db antenna through the tailgate to the dash mount for my GMRS. Didnt drill any holes except in the back plastic housing for the third brake light. The ghost antenna stubby sticks up above the light and works great.

Thanks Kyle. (y) I have my CB antenna on the rear door of my Jeep. It works well there. It sounds like the GMRS is the new direction of radios. Don't know if I will mount my CB in the Bronco or just move to GMRS. BUT...first I have to get the Bronco!!
