Bronco's RPM's @70mph for each series.

I keep hearing how the 4.7 gearing for the manual Badlands and the Sasquatch package is going to cause fairly high RPM's when driving down the highway.
I made all my calculations from this link - RPM Calculator
The final transmission ratio for the manual is .646:1 and the auto is .636:1 if you want to play around with different sized tires and rear gear.
It looks like the manual base cruises at the highest RPM and the auto Big Bend and Outerbanks with the 3.73's have the lowest RPMs.
The Sasquatch isn't too bad when compared to other series but of course gas mileage will be hurt due to extra weight and width of the 35's.
I hope someone finds this useful as I found it interesting. Please let me know if I forgot a combination.

Great job! Black diamond sticks out. Fairly significant increase in the automatic RPMs. My question is how the 2.3 will perform with the automatic given the low RPM. With only 310 ft-lbs of torque I hope it doesn’t continually downshift at highway speeds.

Great info Deano, thanks for crunching the numbers and posting! Not as bad as my 96 with E4OD and 4.10s, however appears my new Mansquatch won't have too much top end for road trips but that is the sacrifice for having the low end grunt. :p

I had to laugh, it is funny how we are now talking about cars with only 310 ft-lbs of torque. I want to say my old F250 only had 400 ft-lbs and it was a torque beast and had to move around a CCSB 4x4 superduty not a midsize SUV.

I did this for the Badlands, 2.3 and 7-speed with 33’s and 4.7 rear. Based the red/yellow/green bin the Ranger stock 2.3 dyno curves.

Based on this, I think quick passed, on the highway will warrant a downshift from 7, just where the Ranger dyno numbers land. The double overdrive and possibly a slightly different tune may help. 3k RPM looks to be where the boost really comes in so cruising should get decent MPG.

Great chart!
It's amazing that you would be going a little less than 10mph at 3000rpms when using the rock crawler gear.

Way back I was friends with a guy that raced (and still races) KOH. His original theory was being able to run a lower gear in the T-case (3-speed) and still be able to hit 120mph across the lakebed. The basis was at a 2:1 or less, he had that much more torque available. Same applies to the Bronco. My chart is just with the T-case in high range. Low range will be a BEAST.

Wow, I hadn't even thought about low range. You would be just barely moving when the motor is in it's peak torque range.
Do you have a dyno sheet available to post for the 2.3?

I believe that's the one I used. Basically looked at where torque started to peak, indicating the turbo spooling up and MPG subsequently dropping.
