Jeep used to have a fall outing in the Ouray/Silverton area. I think it was about a 3-4 day event. The cost was per Jeep. I think it was around $395, but this was 15 years ago. Are there any plans for a Bronco outing?

Maybe we should just plan something in Ouray... It's my Dad's hometown. My great grandfather used to run mule trains up to the miners and back. He "leased" the city park and hot springs to the community years ago. The Jeep garage in the middle of town was his first service station when trucks started coming along. Our family still owns 11 silver mines outside of town. Most you cannot drive to anymore.

This is a great response. Mule trains, if you have any pictures please post them. It sounds like you could be a great trail lead. Your Dad has a great place to live.

Agreed! Cool photos, too. Heck, I'm always looking for excuses to drive my Bronco somewhere. Anywhere! :geek:

He doesn't live there anymore. We do make it out there a couple times a year typically. I stopped by my uncle's place in Montrose a couple weeks ago on my way over to Colorado springs but didn't make it to Ouray that trip. If you've never been to Ouray for the 4th of July, you don't know what you're missing. The firehouse fights are epic... A couple years ago one of my cousins was competing... She fought hard but after about 45 minutes, she was smoked and they called it.

A few more shots of a couple of the family mines, Animas Forks, the perimeter trail, and the Fellin Park sign. Oliver was my grandmother's dad.

Thanks for sharing. These are great pictures and info.

I will bore you with a quick story.

My grandfather, we called him Mac, was a Fire Chief when I was 8-10 years old. They purchased a new pumper truck for the department. He was able to get the pump from the old truck. As the story goes they were going to scrap it. We lived on a lake, so he brought it home and installed it next to the canal we lived on. He would start up the gas engine on it and could water the front yard, over the house, from the back yard. The kids in our sub would bring the lids from their trash cans to use as a shield. We would run at Mac to see who could get the closest to him before we got knocked down by the water stream. The pictures of your cousins brought back some great memories. Thank You!!
