Bronco side-illuminating turn lights?

I just noticed how hard it is to see the road when I make a 90° turn, either left or right. The headlights are very bright, but don’t illuminate to the side at all. Has anyone seen an aftermarket light that I can connect to the turn signal to shine in the direction I’m turning?

These are designed (and marketed) for off-road use. But check them out. Maybe you can subdue the lumens a bit so they serve your purpose.

Edit: maybe amber LEDs on that setup would provide the illumination you want. A caution on the product: note the "Before" image shows headlights on a road, with flat ground to the sides. The "After" photo has vegetation, which enhances the sense of greater illumination, as the lighted side view is much closer (closed in). It's not an apples-to-apples comparison of these lamps on flat land to the side.

Yes I noticed this last night, while trying to make a left onto a dark road. I think a wide throw fog light can get that area lit up, that is what I am going to try.

Fog lights might do the trick. I'd mount them on a stand that allows adjustments, both up/down and left/right. Let's be careful with gimmick solutions. They look great on the seller's website, but once inistalled...? I just received an IAGPerformance dash tray. It doesn't sit flat on the dash, so I'm returning it.

Regarding the Oracle lights I referenced: You'd have to decide what to wire them up to--headlight circuit? And if so, what about battery drain and amperage? Do you want those things blasting sideways 24/7, which is how the headlights operate? Or just put them on a dedicated AUX circuit, switch on when desired? Big nuisance factor, there. The promotional copy looks great, but I don't think those are the solution for your daily (nightly) drive.

The FJCruiser is regarded as a great off-road vehicle, but people have complained about the pillars' structure which seriously hinders visibility. Alas, I think that is the same with the Bronco. The A-pillars, combined with the big, boxy side mirrors create blindspots, making the driver unaware of a pedestrian or a cyclist. I have a few intersections where I simply have to look over my shoulder (e.g. entering a "Y" from one of the forks). Visibility there is very problematic. I simply have to slow down and look, very, very carefully.

You know...My Badlands has spotlights on the mirrors. I’ve never even turned them on.
I’m going to play with them tonight, and see if they are helpful.
This is the first time I’ve had the Bronco out at night in a very dark area - no streetlights. There is a double-turn I have to make to get to our property, and it’s super-hard to judge when it’s pitch-black.

I come off of Cool Pines and have to turn on Deer Farm.

I wonder how hard it would be to detect the turn signal indicator. I’m an EE, so it might be a fun project.

That's a pretty good solution. Maybe too bright to use them when others are on the road but might work great for 3Dogs issue.

Found the same uneasiness about corner lighting when making either left or right turn in my Badlands. Solved the issue with some Diode Dynamics LED fog lights and the difference is night and day. Have the max version SS3‘s.

Ha Ha.

I suspect that covering lights fell out of fashion when the vast majority of cars sold were used in cities, where there is almost always good street lighting. Out in the boonies, they are still useful.
I’m working on a design for my Bronco. We’ll see if it’s worth doing more than a one-off.

Oh, and - the mirror spotlights work pretty well, the the controls make it impractical to use.

Same complaint with my Badlands at night in the country. Zone lighting is great for working around the vehicle (opening gates, etc) but must be in PARK for zone lighting to work. 😕 May have to go with fog lights and flip the Aux switch when needed. Ditch lights would work but would blind other drivers.

Don't you ever take a walk in the grave yard? I just don't speak to them out loud because I am worried they may start talking back to me.... So I am silent and say everything in my head.... BUT some people are not shy speaking to the dead out loud....

I have found using the bumper mounted fog lights as driving lights in these scenarios to be a tremendous help

You can set up front fogs as cornering lights in FORSCAN. I have not done this, but its an option in the drop down menus. I dont know if its keyed by the turnsignal or what.

Just keep in mind, those mirror add on lights or even ditch lights aren't road use legal in most places.
In PA, anything added above the headlight is supposed to be covered.
I have amber backlit ditch lights & no one has said anything yet, but by law, they should be covered when on-road.

So a fog or bumper mounted option might be better
