TO: All U.S. Ford and Lincoln Dealers

SUBJECT:
NEW VEHICLE DEMONSTRATION / DELIVERY HOLD - Advance Notice -
Compliance Recall 21C23
Certain 2021 Model Year Bronco Front Passenger Air Bag Replacement

AFFECTED VEHICLES

Screen Shot 2021-10-05 at 7.43.54 AM.jpg

Affected Build Dates: July 18, 2021 through August 17, 2021

Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS and FSA VIN Lists.

REASON FOR THIS COMPLIANCE RECALL
Some of the affected vehicles may not conform to the requirements specified by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208 Occupant Protection. The front passenger air bag may have been incorrectly folded during manufacturing. Incorrect folding may cause improper deployment of the airbag, increasing the risk of occupant injury during a crash.

SERVICE ACTION
DO NOT DEMONSTRATE OR DELIVER any new in-stock vehicles involved in this compliance recall. A complete Dealer Bulletin will be provided to dealers during 4th quarter of 2021 when parts ordering information and repair instructions will be available to support this compliance recall.

IMPORTANT: Dealers should open a Repair Order (RO) only when a full dealer bulletin is published. Opening an RO against an Awareness or Advance Notice will result in warranty rejections against a recall.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
Owners of record will be notified via first-class mail after repair instructions and parts ordering information have been provided to dealers.

I hope that this is an easy fix for them and they have the new airbags available for those at dirt mountain when they go through the QC check

"Dear so&so,

We know your excited about your Bronco, and we're even more excited to tell you to get bent! Your vehicle was scheduled to be built in Nov __, well now due to Covid, Global Supply issues, the shadow of the Retrograde, my wifes bitchin', etc, it's being pushed all the way back until march :)

Have a great day now,

Well, I believe its only those that were built “July 18, 2021 through August 17, 2021” and “certain 2021”, so not all, and shouldn’t affect those after that built date and really shouldn’t delay anything but the sale of such, if they haven’t been sold before Oct 3rd. Sad for those that didn't pickup before the 3rd

Maybe that is why there were additional unexplained delays on some peoples builds over the last couple of weeks?

Recalls are very common on newly released vehicles. Just glad no one died before they figured it out!

Like everything else that happened, reliance on support companies who have lax regulations due mostly in part to workers with extremely low standards and lazyness spawned by a cultural change that expects respect without earning it.

I'm not a Ford fanboi, but to be fair, the entire industry has egg on it's face, not just Ford.

Well that sucks. Odds are that this gem below is in the batch. 8/3 blend. My guess is they have to remove the entire dash to do the fix. Anybody know?
Truck has been great so far and I am 2k miles in. I figured there would be some hiccups with a 1st year model so it is what it is. Things could be a hell of a lot worse than a misfolded airbag.
Warmest regards, Tits.

That is kind of how I interpreted it as well. I'm a Nov 8 build date and hoping it doesn't impact the build date!

I think I'll disagree, the air bag isn't manufactured by Ford. Remember about 4-5 years ago ford and Toyota were having the airbag issues and people were having to wait MONTHS to get their car back from warranty. It's nothing new to see air bag recalls!

Took Ford over three years to get the replacement Takata airbags for my 08 Mustang. I asked them what am I supposed to do in the meantime? “Just don’t drive it until the parts come in”. Over three years

That was a saga, and it hit so many manufacturers, but for me it was all a dealer issue. For over two years I kept contacting my default dealer (closest location), they kept saying we can do the driver but not the passenger, and they would call me when they had the parts. Months, then years, never a phone call or anything. I finally just called a different dealer down the road a bit and they were like, yeah we can do both, no problem.

True, but they already have huge air bag recalls on other vehicle(s) (just got another notice yesterday in the mail), so this shouldn't have become an issue at all. What I think is most frustrating is it pushes back the early builds, for some of the people that have been waiting the longest and have already been delayed numerous times.

If it's nothing new, it should be anticipated by the manufacturer, and something that is double-checked. If it's not new, it's known and should be handled before it becomes an issue.

I realize there are things that come up or prevent or...but if most of these vehicles were waiting for delivery due to tops, why didn't they address this while they were sitting...or maybe they did and they just are required to send out the notices even though the repair has already been done?
