Did Ford ever produce the Bronco Off-Road app?

It's called the Bronco Trail App. I think you can download it from Ford's website? Did it a while back & can't remember exactly. Getting old & forgetful.

Thanks for the reply. I found it. To be honest, it doesn’t look very good.

It has a long way to go to compete with On-X or Gaia....😥

The only good use I have found for it is being able to take videos on my phone with the vehicle dynamics on the screen using a tap of the Bronco touchscreen to start and stop recording. Prefer On-X for trail navigation.

I would love to try it sometime but haven't been able to get it to work. Always gives me some kind of Camera synch issue.

I use it all the time to air-up and air-down tires since it gives you real-time TPMS data (unlike the FordPass app).

Unfortunately it’s usefulness beyond that is… well… limited. It was a decent (albeit buggy) initial release and since then they’ve only released bug fixes.

It still has potential, and doesn’t even need to be as good as what On-X and Gaia offer. Both of those are premium paid products, and many people don’t off-road enough to justify paying for them. But they’ve essentially been stuck fixing bugs for the past 6-8 months… many of which were bugs present in the beta that never got fixed.

I suspect most people who initially downloaded it probably used it one or twice and promptly forgot it existed. Hopefully they can transition away from bug fixes and to new features soon, but it’s going to be an uphill battle to regain that lost interest.

I have OnX, TrailsOffRoad, and the Bronco Trail App. I LOVE the idea of the Bronco Trail app. The single biggest problem, you basically have to commit your phone to the app. It likes to break the connection if I get call, if I want to take a picture, or really work away from the app. The single biggest problem I have, using my phone to take a picture. I have to almost start completely over.
I really do think their supported trails are good. I like the direction. I appreciate how it's presented.

I wish they would have just worked out a deal with On-X or Gaia to reskin their app. I tried it a couple times just after launch and it was pretty useless.

The real time pressure monitoring mentioned above might make me reinstall it though, it would be handy for airing up/down.

I tried it a couple of times and went back to OnX etc. It has promise, but the lack of integration with the cameras built into my Bronco is a deal breaker for me as well. I lead runs, so I need a tool that helps me plan routes, etc. and there’s just not enough there there for me to switch to it from OnX, Gaiagps, and Trails Off-road which I use together to plan share routes, and display my routes on the screen in my Bronco.

Ooo.... I have lots and lots of ideas. But the following I could consider to be "core" functionality:

  • The ability to import GPX files as a trail/drive.
  • The ability to export your drives as GPX files.
  • There should be a dedicated "My Drives" and/or "My Trails" section, rather than having them hidden within the Activity Feed.
  • The ability to share your trails with others, make them discoverable on the map, and have them clearly noted as a user-created trail rather than a curated trail. This seems like a feature that was planned based on what's already in the app, but it seems to have gotten cut from the final release.
  • The app should be made available to Bronco Sport owners even if it cannot fully integrate with the Bronco Sport itself due to Sync 3 restrictions.

I would also really like to see the app transition to the more widely accepted 1-10 trail rating system rather than the 1-4 rating in the Trail app. If that's not possible, just drop the number from the difficulty and stick with Easy/Moderate/Difficult/Severe. A "4" rated trail using the standard 1-10 system is a fairly easy trail that everyone with a Bronco should be able to complete without any real difficulty. A "4" rated trail in the Bronco Trail app is the highest difficulty possible. It has the potential to cause a fair amount of confusion.

Just followed the instructions on the screen. It records form your phone so have to make sure the app has access to the camera

Yeah, last time I played with it, once I started moving, the video stopped and went to a map view, and recorded the line that I drove on the map.

It will only show the camera view while stationary to adjust the aim of your phone. While on the map view tap the record button on the bronco screen to start recording and tap it again to stop recording. It will then ask if you want to save the video. It’s designed to used via CarPlay or android auto not directly on the phone.

Is it just me, or was the original plan of the Bronco Trail App to use the front camera (for those broncos equipped with one) to record the footage of the trails rather than a phone?

I don't have much memory of the initial intention of the camera, I always figured since the phone was up there it made sense to use the camera.

What I like about this app is that it's bronco specific so I know the trails will be doable for me. I never do this stuff so gaia and onx felt overwhelming and I'd find a trail to realize it was a hiking trail or motorcycle trail or sxs trail or whatever I wouldn't be able to go on. The simplicity is the draw from my perspective.

I don't know if it was the "plan", but everyone I know assumed that that was what they were going to do. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm very disappointed in the app. the fact it doesn't use the built in Bronco camera is just one more thing. I just can't see switching from OnX to it for now.
