There is a Ford tech on YouTube with a channel called Ford Boss Me. He works out of a Ford dealer in the Chicagoland area and he recent came across a 2021 Ford Bronco with a bad transfer case. The owner had been driving the Bronco in 4-Auto all the time. While Ford says it is fine to do, is unnecessary and puts extra strain on the transfer case and drivelines. The final straw, however, was when his Bronco was towed while parked in 4-Auto—completely shot the transfer case.

This is the video of him tearing down the bad transfer case. Thought it was interesting and worth sharing. If you want to see the other videos of the series, they are below. His videos seems to spark quite a bit of discussion about whether it was okay to use 4-Auto for everyday driving.

Thanks for posting. Good to see that disassembly. I sincerely hope to never have to see the inside of the transfer case, but its nice to know its relatively straight forward.

Nice video; I like seeing inside stuff.

No one asked lol, but I don't think I would ever reach for 4A in the Bronco.

I ordered the advanced 4x4 mainly for the improved crawl ratio with the manual, but can very much see myself putting it in auto on my commute to work when it’s snowing or icy in the winter. But 2H 98% of the time to save fuel.

I agree. It's perfect to use in the winter when the roads have clear sections but can come upon an icy patch quickly.

That makes sense. I'm a creature of habit, so having never had it, I probably will forget it exists. I'm used to managing 2H fishtail in my Jeep with the throttle until it's clear I need the traction of 4H, because yeah, like you, fuel savings and reduced wear.

I may also be a menace on the road, since these safety features exist for a reason ... but no accidents yet and I drive speeds appropriate for the conditions.
