BRAND NEW and RUSTY - not superficial

Just took delivery of my 2021 First Edition in Texas (Super early reservist) and took a peek under the truck as soon as I got home. Both front CV axles and the non-boot covered portions of the joints have deep rust on them. All the new Bronco parts are QR coded even under the truck. These parts are not labeled. It literally looks like to finish out the truck, they went and slapped these on from a scrap bin to ship it complete!
Has anyone else experienced this? I submitted photos immediately to dealer. Now having to go by and let service take a look in person.

Looking forward to posting actual fun content after getting through this rough start.

Thanks!
Brian

Wow! This entire journey to owning a Bronco feels like a bad rash that just will not go away. Sorry!

Damn I could possibly see it if it was delivered during winter on a semi through salted mid-west roads but that's pretty bad. They salt spray our roads weekly here and my 2 yr. old car doesn't have any where near that amount amount of corrosion.

Superficial or not, it’s good you documented it and informed your dealer.

Read the fine details in Ford’s corrosion warranty, and schedule with your dealer (when everything calms down and parts are more readily available) to have them refurbed/replaced.

I have no idea if they use the same part, but do you think they robbed them from a Ranger and used them to complete a build? That said, they did things like that along the line in 1965/1966 on the 66' builds lol.

That’s what I was thinking.

My old Bronco was a 1988, built at MAP. The 87-91 Bricknose generation was NOTORIOUS for having overstock parts from other trucks/ MYs thrown in them. Case and point; mine was a V8 EFI when 90% of Ford’s engine lineup was still transitioning from carbs. Not only that, it had a stock 4 on the floor… when most of their 1/4 and 1/2 tons had transitioned to the auto or 5spd (or was it 6 speed? Idr) manual trans by that time. I loved that Bronco to death and those parts were a dime a dozen and sturdy as hell (Example: I replaced the original starter after 32 years going strong, it looked completely unrecognizable when I pulled it. It looked more like a rusty tin can pulled out of a swamp than a starter) but holy moly it was difficult to find DIY instructions specific to that MY. I was constantly on a scavenger hunt on YouTube for mechanic tutorials with parts that resembled what was under the hood of my Bronco. By the time it came to rewiring everything, I got so frustrated that I considered releasing the P brake and letting it roll into traffic, downhill, on fire. Fortunately my carpenter buddy saved me from that decision and did the wiring himself.

I’d be shocked if MAP started their MY21 Bronco builds 100% from scratch. That’s not always a bad thing, per se. Because in 20 years when you’re scavenging for cheap parts, you can be confident you’ll find what you need off a MY19-21 Ranger in the junkyard for a fraction of the cost of a new refurb/OEM part. But in OP’s case here….. that’s unbelievably frustrating.

I’m curious as to the point of origin on those parts. if They are coming on a slow boat and aren’t coated completely before they ship, they will rust

Definitely not a structural concern, but it’s sub surface with pitting. Just pisses me off after paying for new.

Yeah. Flash rust would totally be okay, like the edges on the control arms you see right. This is not that.

I don’t keep trailer queens. 100% rund over trees, natural pin striping, high angle rock climbs, mud and fording waters. What I don’t do: Pay for new then fix it for them. If I screw something up on my truck, it’s on me. They do it and it better be on their dime.

Don’t know what kind of water you drink, but it’s either crap steel or a long time oxidizing. That’s the adult word for rust.

This is not flash rust. You can see that on other components. Totally expected. These parts are either from a different timeline or crap steel. This is 3D textured pitting.
