Best Hard Top option

Hoping someone can save me some time and leg work. I have a 21 Bronco and I want to switch from my soft top to a hard top. I originally ordered a hard top and then took Ford's offer to change to a soft top so I wouldn't have to wait as long to get my new Bronco. Anybody know what my best option is for obtaining a hard top (factory or aftermarket)??

Factory isn't going to happen unless you find a built Bronco with a hard top and buy that one.

Aftermarket has (4) options I know of:

Advance Fiberglass Concepts (check out B6G), a lot of complaints about people paying up front and STILL waiting a year or two later. https://www.advfiberglass.com/collections/ford/products/2021-2024-ford-bronco-hardtop

Anderson Composites, similar to AFC in the fact that I don't think there are many out there if any.
https://andersoncomposites.com/products/2021-2022-ford-bronco-4-door-fiberglass-hardtop-black

Turn Offroad (new-comer to the group). Seem to have been very transparent on B6G, and is expected to be shipping soon.
https://turnoffroad.com/products/2021-ford-bronco-hard-top-4-door

Rally tops is the 4th one. Cheapest of the group, not too bad looking. https://www.rallytops.com/shop/ford-bronco-hardtop-4-door/

Just realize, you are looking at spending $4k - $7k when all is said and done. I don't like to tell people to go to B6G as that forum is annoying along with all the people over there, but you'll find quite a bit of info on the options for a hard top.

Since I'm going to be selling my 2Dr this Spring I've been kind of out of the loop, but I know the number of choices are increasing, here are there are 4 I'm aware of. (all are 4Dr tops the 2Dr option is in the works on 2 of the choices)

ADV = supposedly shipping 4Dr tops and the most expensive choice at the moment, but may still be experiencing parts supply issues. There won't be a 2Dr option.

Rallytops = I've seen their video showcasing their 4Dr top on a Bronco, but that's it. It'll most likely be less expensive than ADV. A 2Dr option is unknown and probably unlikely.

Anderson Composites = tops are shipping but I've seen some quality nit-picks about them and not sure if it's just from the earliest batch/run. I've no clue if those nit-picks have been taken care of ( I think there's some people that have them on this forum) but they use factory weatherstripping so delays may occur and add to lead time and I'm pretty sure their price falls under ADV's unless you want to opt for the $10k carbon-fiber option. The 2 Dr version is 'supposedly' still in the works.

Turn Offroad = They're in the process of getting ready to start shipping out the first batch/batches of 4Dr tops to the people on their waiting list. There aren't any tops out in the wild as of yet, so I really can't say anything about them, but they have a showcasing video of the top on their YouTube channel. Their asking price seems pretty reasonable, in my opinion.

I'm not a fan of the factory hard-top, since my 2Dr one is not that great (at least it's not de-laminating or cracking (yet)), but if price/budget is of concern you 'may' be able to get a used factory one for cheaper than the Aftermarket options.

::edit:: I forgot one important word in my comment on factory hardtop, 'used'.

Others have already listed all of the major aftermarket tops I'm aware of... so I'll just give some additional details on the OEM top:

Currently it's impossible to order the factory hard top as a complete kit. Ford's objective (thus far) is not to sell the hard top standalone, but to offer parts for warranty purposes on existing hard top owners. So you have to order each of the components individually (there are around 2 dozen parts total) and assemble it yourself.

The price of the parts when tallied together have fluctuated between $8,000 and $12,000 depending on supply at Ford's parts distributors. Last I checked it was $9,800, and of course you'll have to account for the cost of assembly/installation. Most of it you can do yourself if you are the handy type, but the glass installation in particular may be a bit beyond what the average DIY user is comfortable doing.

there is one other option, armadillo designs has an Aluminum top. our Buddy BroncBuster has already tested its durability with a roll over test.

Ford purposely directed folks to their flimsy rag top to keep the sales going. The $650 factory option (on the 4dr) was a screaming good deal.

$650 was in addition to what the ragtop cost. Still the best deal if you got a good one with no issues .

I never understood why the 2 door guys, who have hard tops from the factory, complain that the aftermarket isn't making tops for the 2 doors. Help me understand, why would someone want to drop another $4k or whatever to replace one you already have? Other than the fact that the Ford/Webasto hard tops are kind of crappy, or so many people say.

Yeah the factory tops are hit and miss. From day one we have had wind noise coming from the rear passenger side. This past weekend we had the front panels off and we actually got to park in the garage. I was walking by and I could see light under 3/4 of the middle section above the rear passenger door. I messed around with it until I finally added some rubber seal with adhesive to the top of the sports bar. Wife drove it yesterday and said the wind noise is gone. But to suck the back of this panel so it is more flush with the not so removable rear section I added some folder card board in the latch. She said it creaks so bad now, she is scared it will break. Guess I need to remove the cardboard. But I can see light between the rear removable panel and the very back panel for about 6” toward the middle of the vehicle.

It’s a Bronco thing. I can live with it it has never leaked not even going through a high pressure car wash.

Yah it can be depending on your expectations of what a top should be.

It’s just too bad Ford couldn’t supply enough hard tops and kinda indirectly influenced people into getting the soft top vs the hardtop. A person can add a soft top for a fraction of the cost of a aftermarket hardtop. It’s almost cheaper to sell your ragtop Bronco and reorder a new Bronco if a person wants one with a hardtop.

My hardtop has been pretty good to me, (please dot jinix me)..LOL but if you read a lot of the posts on these two sites it would seem failure is inevitable! I have had the full top off once when I first got it, then I spent 900 bucks on the sunrider half-top cause of fear of how fragile the hard top is. There is a post on the other site where someone cut the factory top open and its basically thin plastic with cardboard in the middle. Jeep has been making HT's for decades Ford also with the older Broncos, so how did they "F" this up so bad!!! One hail storm is all it will take to destroy this top on a 50k vehicle.

They F'd it up by choosing Webasto, who is supposedly a good manufacturer of hard tops. Also, probably told them they wanted to reduce the weight as much as possible.

I've owned an '84,'92, & '93 Bronco. Every one of those tops were great. Probably solid if not close to solid fiberglass. Which I wish Ford would've done this time around.

I guess the real question is what level of modularity do you want? If you want the same pieces as factory, then Anderson Composites is the way to go unless you can find a used OEM one for a decent price. If I was just wanting one with only the front panels are removable, I'd probably go with Turn Offroad. If you want just one solid piece, then ADV is your best choice. The more removable panels you have, the more squeaks and noise you're going to have, so there is a tradeoff.

Here is a video review we did on the Anderson Composites top. We were one of the first ones to get one back in early April of last year.

I went with a soft top to get my Bronco sooner. I would have liked a hard top, but no regrets. I got to try out a soft top for awhile and its been fun. I'm scheduled with TOR for a Feb 6th ship date. $4500 for a good quality hard top is not out of line in my opinion. Remember its 2024 and we are paying with Monopoly money!
