Back up camera and rain

Just received my Bronco last night on a typical rainy Oregon night, and one of the things we noticed right away was how much the water obscured the rear camera, wiped it off today and drove again and even with no rain just wet roads the spray covered the camera. Has this been anyone else's experience? I have a full sized pick up and have not had this issue unless it was an extra heavy rain.

Thinking of trying some Rain X on the lens.

Agreed, even our "Sport" gets "spray distorted" a bit, where my F-450 never has any issues. Granted, the tailgate camera is quite a bit higher above the road than the Bronco's!

Shorter wheelbase with less overhang on a Bronco vs the bed of a pickup truck. It's the same as a hatchback car.

Yeah bummer it’s pretty worthless in the wet weather.

I have the same problem with my 2019 rav4 I use rainx, it helps. My camera also frosts up in the cold weather so it's pretty much useless.

Same issue with explorer and fusion. It’s with bad location or didn’t have proper protection around the lens

My question is what vehicle do you own that doesn't get a distorted camera in the rain or road mist? My F350 was real bad, my new 2021 f150 gets distorted in the rain and road mist about like anything else I've driven. Hell, our rental tahoe that we had while in Colorado was terrible with the camera getting distorted.

Honestly I can't get used to looking at the screen to back up. I never had a vehicle with back up camera until my leased 2017 Explorer and I could never get myself to trust the camera and always had to use the mirrors or look both ways myself.
Maybe eventually I'll get used to it.

I removed the tailgate on my '19 F-450 and put on one of those rigid plastic, 5th wheel tailgates, so I use my rear, cab mounted brake light camera (the 450 has the 6 camera system), and it stays pretty clear! Not sure if the wind coming over the roof, blows it clear or what?

And "Deano", I still use both Mirrors and Camera, as well... never trust just the camera!

I think the square, flat back of any SUV type vehicle, especially, the more upright ones, creates a vacuum and thus a swirl of rain/road grime/film, whereas, a pickup, not so much. That crap all ends up on the camera (as well as the rear window and tailgate/rear hatch). You can see it on the highway as they drive by...

Yeah I would put gate down to line up the ball because my helper couldn't seem to get it right.
Truck was worthless crew cab couldnt see car trailer looking out the back window the camera was such a wide angle you couldn't really see the end of the trailer.to put the gate down to see the trailer it took 20 minutes undoing the tonneau
