After a too long hiatus, we got back out onto a trail! The weather had been relatively dry the last couple weeks (though that changed yesterday), so we thought we really ought to get out.

I started out using the Bronco Trail app, but it doesn't have much in the area beyond the standard stuff around Ouray. That's all still closed, as far as I can tell. I switched over to COTREX, which is a trail app created by the Colorado state government. It's not the easiest app to use, but it has tons of trail information. After a bit of browsing there, and discovering the West Slope 4 Wheelers website (shout out to those guys for the suggestion), we decided to head over to the Peach Valley OHV area north of Montrose to try the Eagle-Wave Loop.

WSW rates this "4+" out of 10, so I wasn't expecting it to be all that challenging. Right off the bat, it was pretty easy, but fun because I was able to get the speedometer going - and scared my ladyfriend (Alison) a little. Soon after, though, the inclines began and the rocks began to crop up on the trail. It was a much bigger challenge than I expected, but I got a ton of footage - so much that I had to make two separate videos, and probably really needed three. We're working on trying to get the camera into different places, and Alison got some experience as a ground guide. Overall, it was a ton of fun, and our stock Black Diamond Bronco performed very admirably climbing over rocks and on our high speed run to wrap up the loop. We're new to this, but I think this trail did a lot to improve my confidence in the vehicle and in myself. Some big takeaways: probably should have aired down, but I forgot until we were nearly done - it worked out all the same; more ground clearance on this thing would be helpful.

Check out our video, if you're interested. Once I get the rest of the clips pasted together, I'll post the second part. Thanks for watching!

We wheeled in Montrose once, maybe twice. Everyone had 40's or larger, so the trails were extreme.
All I remember is that the whole trail was full of boulders as big as the Jeeps.
One friend was struggling. His wife got out to spot him. Luckily she left her window down. He started climbing the rock again and slid. Boulder next to him had this "jut" out. Itt went right into the passenger window and went so far in, it came inches from his head. Lol
No pictures, but it did happen.
And, no, the Bronco Trail app has nothing in that area.

Once I figure out how, I'll had this one to the Bronco app. It's a great trail.

Nothing that extreme in this video, but I definitely want to avoid that sort of thing myself!

personally, I find the Bronco Trail app to be pretty much useless when it comes to route planning. I use OnX for that and OnX rates that trail a 5, so pretty close to the 4+ you were told. You can see the info on that trail here in OnX. Looks like it would be fun!

You can't add anything to the Bronco Trail app. That's one of MANY reasons I don't bother with it.

Well, that's dumb. I was under the impression you could.

Unless they added it recently. Like I said I use the OnX app. It’s got more curated trails, and you can build your own routes and organize things into folders. Finally you can download maps into your phone so you can run trails while offline.

Nice...thanks for sharing. I just got the Bronco last month & have been looking for places closer than Moab that are rideable this time of year. May have to check this one out.

Looks like there are a lot of trails in Colorado! Here's some that are near the trail you ran. https://webmap.onxmaps.com/offroad/map#9.06/38.6069/-107.8913

Well, I'm guessing it's got a lot of snow now, after we got dumped on Sunday, but it was almost bone dry on Saturday. It was a fun run.
