Well, now I realize why I DESPISE this useless feature (as if I needed an

Was attempting to enter a highway from a side-street, really no “shoulder” to ramp up speed on. That half-second nearly cost me my life. (NJ roads, mind you)

I had “time” to gun the engine and enter traffic without issue EXCEPT for the damn delay in start/stop!

From now on I’m disabling it before I go anywhere and I’m going to permanently disable it.

Totally useless “feature” that I’ve no doubt, puts extra wear on the battery and starter.

I hate the feature as well, but honestly, it sounds like you should drive more carefully, lmao.... That sounds like an IO error.

I have the miss fortune of traveling to CT every month, one of the poorest designed highways is RT15 (Merritt Highway) this is a high speed road with these rest stops that give you about 50 feet to enter and exit the on and off ramps are the same way. You all most have to have prior experience drag racing to get on and off. I always make sure the A.S.S is disabled on this high way, it could be life or death!!!

Not sure what the big deal is.
I turn it off every time I start my Bronco.
If I forget, I can turn it off at any time, driving or at a stop.

Lol I wish that were the case, I’m 55 (not a kid) and I’m a career paramedic. I do this every night. Sometimes it’s “operator error”
Not in this case unfortunately.

Well that’s just my point— I neglected to manually turn it off. It’s not a “big deal” until you get smashed to pieces.

Ah yes the Merritt Parkway. The drag strip of Connecticut. I know that road well.

Anyway, I don’t have any issues with the Auto Start/Stop on the modern Fords (even on Merritt Parkway) you flinch the brake pedal just a little bit and the engine starts right back up and you’re ready to go. The older start/stop systems were SUPER annoying and it was basically impossible to properly drive your vehicle. But the new systems I don’t have a problem with at all. It’s pretty seamless.

I think you are missing the point here, the problem isn't the auto start stop, the problem are the turbos. I found out very quickly that stomping the pedal from a dead stop does not move you, it almost bogs down. Need to go half to 3/4 throttle to get a good start when pulling out of our NJ side streets.

Turbos need to wind out to work well. But so does any car to develop hp. My coyote doesn't really start to move until 3k rpm, redline at 7. Bitd they used to red at way less than that! Took some getting used to as it was my first v8 manual in years.

But I digress. If the long and short of this discussion is the auto start isn't cool, I agree.

And now because of the chip shortage you can opt to not have it. Well it's not written in stone yet. But you can with the Ranger, F-150 and others. I'm sure the same option will be there for the Bronco.

I agree. I find that with it on or off it takes a little bit to get up and go from a stop.

I agree I have become familiar with how to keep it running if I wish (just let off the brake for a second after you stop) and if I need to accelerate quickly and the engine is of I let off the brake before I go and the engine is now running and ready

I did a video on this last year that included a simple fix that will keep the Auto Stop feature turned off without cheating a sensor and potentially causing you more problems.

The point is “it’s a useless feature that some moron invented to justify their existence and get around poor epa standards !!!”
can you tell I’m not a fan? It’s dangerous. I’m done.

Fixed it for you lol

All seriousness though my routine is push clutch, press start, push ASS button every time I start the bronco. That way I don't have to worry about the stupid delay in the ASS

$109 will "fix' that problem. It was the first mod I made to my bronco. I absolutely hate the auto start stop and can sympathize with what you experienced.
Yes, it's easy to disable, but more often than not I would forget to do it and get caught off guard when I needed to jackrabbit start, like gettin on the freeway.
I think Ford got the hint. On my 2022 Lariat you can disable it without having to install a module.
