At what price per gallon do you rethink your purchase?

Unfortunately, gas prices are going nowhere but up. I'm currently in a 4Runner and, as my driving is mainly highway, can average around 20mpg. And that's on regular gas. Even though the 4Runner drivetrain is ancient, the new, modern drivetrain in the Bronco actually gets worse mileage when you factor in that you really need to run premium fuel to get the best mileage and power. Some trims only average 17mpg highway on premium fuel. As premium is about 20% more expensive here, that's the equivalent of a vehicle getting around 14mpg on regular. I drive around 20k miles a year. Premium is approaching $5 a gallon here. At 17mpg, that's about $500 a month for gas.

If you don't drive that much or can afford to have a Bronco as your limited mileage weekend fun vehicle, great. If you want your Bronco to be your daily, what's your breaking point? $500 a month, $600? $700 in fuel costs?

I'll quit at $10 a gallon

I hate to be that guy but if anyone here is really concerned with gas mileage I would suggest not buying a bronco to daily drive. Go buy a $4k commuter car and you will save that much each year

I'm used to driving bricks...have a 2019 F150 Supercrew currently with the 3.5 EcoBoost---36 gallon tank, getting 17-19mpg, so I'll be fine with a 4dr Bronco getting 17-19 mpg with a 20.something gallon tank..definitely will be less for me to fill a tank. LOL

I will just start by saying that there will not be a Breaking Point with me. ( my problem is will my car last that long) I am fortunate enough to live approximately 5 miles away from my house, my drive really isn't that long and I do not add a lot of miles on the my vehicle. Most of my miles come in the form of long trips all over the State and into a few surrounding States. Conclusion:
For me there is no limit.

Move to Texas. We are the largest producer of crude oil in the United States; we are home to Whataburger; great football and BBQ; and we are going to become our own country soon anyway.

The way I see it, the mpg on the Bronco is about 30% better than my old HEMI Durango. I drove the Durango when gas was at least $4.50 a gallon so 30% more is about $6. Maybe that is when it gets too nauseating for me.

Gas prices never scare me I remember when it was $0.36 a gallon and everyone was worried about gas prices it is all relative to inflation and the cost of living.

No one buys an order soda ready SUV for the mileage. You're stating the obvious. So you're saying that if the Bronco got 1 mpg and gas were $1000 a gallon, you'd still buy one?

Back in 2008 gas got to $4.00 a gallon here and we sold our 1st suburban and got an 08 Malibu and a 08 cobalt. Both the wife and I were driving about 200 miles a day. Had to pay the dealership $10k to take the 2.5 year old suburban from us. About 4 months later gas came back down. Now in the end it all worked out I still have that Cobalt and we traded the Malibu for our current 09 Suburban. And it was cheaper for me to buy the cobalt and fuel at 33 mpgs than just putting fuel in my payed off Escape at about 18 mpgs . But had we just held out for a few months we would have been better off. But if I knew what gas prices were going to do in the future I could tell you when we will all get our Broncos.

As long as my commute is short like it is I'm not worried. It would be short lived situation.By 2024 there would be a new resident and the problem would be over.
But the company owner has been contemplating moving, my commute would be 3x longer that alone at current prices would keep me in my car ,but Ferd doesn't make cars anymore so what would I do to replace it? Don't say electric, its not a practical solution.

Its $4.14 right now

I get you. I'm just saying....when a lot of people were placing reservations on a Bronco....gas was around $2 a gallon. It's now approaching $5 where I am and $8 a gallon is within the realm of possibility within a year. With the potential for gas to quadruple, I'm sore some people will be forced to rethink their purchase. If you have unlimited funds, that's great.

I'm not buying for fuel economy. I'll switch back and forth between my f150 and bronco... Prob will get about the same gas mileage. Or I'll drive my wife's car and make her drive the pickup due to shorter distance to work. I'm more worried about how much it's gonna cost me in rec fuel this year for my boat

I was pumping gas when it was .25 a gallon. When I got out of the army and bought my first new car that was a 1970 Challenger I was very proud and happy of that car but I started to panic when gas got up to $.55 a gallon because every time I stuck my foot in it I could watch the gas gauge go down. What makes it relative at this point is when gas hits $10 to $15 a gallon I think everyone will be in panic mode.

I'm offsetting higher gas prices by driving less. I am fortunate to have the option to work from home many days. Here in Texas gas is probably one of the cheapest in country, I'll never understand why Californians run their state that results in way more expensive gas.

I'll add another problem... If gas hits $10-$15 a gallon... I doubt you will be worried about your bronco... Probably be more worried about how long the earth will last at that point with what we are seeing. That's all I'm going to say.

it's been close to $5 a gallon for a little while now - news is saying we should't be surprised to hit $7 in the near future. luckily I don't drive a lot right now, but I may consider a used prius as a commuter depending on how things go with gas prices
