I was wondering where has everyone been mounting their compressors? I was thinking of mounting mine in the rear on the vehicle in trunk area. Either in the under floor compartment or attached to the Builtright industrtries molle compatible cargo panel. I was also wondering if the wiring that gos back there from the aux switches is enough to power that or would still have to run more wiring?

ARB compressors draw 32 - 68 amps, right? Too much for aux switches.

Correct you shouldn't wire it from the aux switch but you can wire it to trigger from the aux and just hard wire it to the battery.

Ok so i would have to run the main power wire to rear if i wanted to go that route

I have the twin and it’s (2) #10 wires. Running all the way to the rear with a single compressor you’d probably want at least a #8, both hot and ground.

the compressors are designed for harsh climates, so not worried about the heat under the hood.

You have the large gauge positive and negative cables. Connect these to the battery. On the switch wiring, there is a purple wire, I connected this to Aux 3, and I connected that black to ground. I shrunk wrapped the other two wires and taped them shut.

Works perfectly.

What kills mechanical things; I guess a lot of things kill mechanical things, heat, dust, water. I wouldn't put a compressor under the hood.

I've had a few compressors under the hood in Arizona and they have been fine. Now if you are going to be using it with the hood closed and the engine hot in the summer it may not last too many summers. Having the hood open when using it helps keeping it from getting too hot.

I agree with you! that leaving your equipment at 20C ambient, no humidity, no dust - it will last longer (all other things being equal).

But there’s a lot of mechanical (and electrical) stuff under the hood. If the engineers design stuff for awful environments then I’m good with using them there.

Ive seen people install their ARB beneath the truck (mounted to frame or underbody). That seems crazy to me, but under the hood, I’m good!

and it frees up valuable space inside for important things, like beer. :)

I want this compressor and the engine bay mount so bad…just can’t convince myself to pull the trigger yet due to the cost of the mount. Just seems pricey for what you get. Wondering if any other options will come out in the near future.

I think the under-hood mount is a practical and efficient use of the available space. So long as it does not interfere with ordinary engine maintenance. But as others have suggested, use it with the hood popped whenever possible.

There was a discount code somewhere. 10% off the package. 90% of a lot is still a lot, but it’s something…

Yeah I’m with you on that, i think for what it is its too much. That real mount that i was looking at is less money and you can use it for more storage and its safe inside. Plus id rather open the back up instead of opening the hood to air up. It is still a hard decision tho
