Has anyone used this set or brand? Seemed like a good deal.

I definitely haven't. Most tents like that which I've seen have not been great at being a tent. Ideally the goal is to keep out the bugs and the rain. That design doesn't make it great and either, though you do need to make sure the front of the vehicle is lower than the rear.

I just don't like the idea of a shelter attached to my vehicle for anything other than temporary shade or rain protection. I've done a fair amount of car camping. I prefer the flexibility of leaving camp without breaking down my shelter.

No. I've got a rooftop and it's great for my camping use - one night at a time. Anything else, I would recommend that you go with something that allows you to use your vehicle without breaking camp.

Those are good points, I guess I assumed I’d be able to detach it without having to break it all down. I’d love a rooftop but have a soft top.

These style of tents do allow you to drive away without breaking down the tent itself. I use a similar tent and it works great. It is nice to be able to access the rear of your truck without having to leave the tent. Very easy to drive away too. I should also add that i have had no problems with water leakage.

I have one, the tent is of good quality and is plenty of room for two people, you do not have to leave it connected to the car, it was convenient to be able to open up the hatch when it was raining to access stuff in the car without going outside.

I would avoid this. Get a decent tent like an REI Skyward or Nemo Aurora that won’t break the bank but will hold up over time. Then grab something like a Trail Gear Oasis trail cover that will provide that covered area over the back and double as a rain cover when the top is down.

Bought this at Costco, it included an air bed. Tried it out in the driveway, it seems great. We’ see if it works on our next trip.
