I wanted to order a 2022 Bronco Badlands with SIDE STEPS, but they no longer appear to be an option on the Ford website. Weird because I was able to add them to my 2021 virtual build.

Does anyone have photos of the Ford side steps on their Bronco? If not, can you install aftermarket side steps? Photos appreciated!
Chris here. I drive a 2-door Velocity Blue 2023 Ford Bronco Badlands with Sasquatch, Lux, a 2.7L V6, and an automatic transmission. It’s fun.

May be a little hard to see, but this is a 2021 WT with side steps that I test drove.

Thanks, BroncoFred! They look great. I thought they looked good in the virtual build gallery, but wanted a closer look. I thought they'd come in handy for ingress/egress, especially because I'm coming from such a low car!

I'm hoping I can add them to my Bronco, either before or after I take delivery.

Badlands comes with the rock rails stock, and you can't have both those and steps (at least from Ford). Aftermarket will probably have some steps you can put on the rock rails soon.

I have a Badlands scheduled to be built. I sat in an FE with rock rails and test drove a WildTrak that had steps. I LOVED the steps on the WildTrak. They made getting in and out of the bronco much easier! I saw a picture of one of the camo broncos(may have been the raptor) that looked like it had a side step bolted to the rock rail. If I find that pic, I will post it.

Looks like the Braptor has steps bolted to the side of the rock rail.

Watching this thread. The first thing I modify with my new Badlands is removal of rock rails and installation of side steps. Retractable would be sweet. I don’t need the solution with integrated rock rails.

I debated on removing the rock rails and adding side steps, but they will be used every now and then off-roading. I live in SW Michigan in the snow belt. We get the snow ice build up behind all the wheels in the winter. Not sure how well the retractable rails would work being iced over.

The factory rock rail hides the lower body seam and when removed to add a step, this portion of the Bronco looks unfinished to me.

I agree @SlashRacer I would like a solution that is a rock rail that sticks out just enough to be used as a step but won’t reduce ground clearance.

Something like this —>

It really shows with steps. Time to bust out a rattle can on the lower seam to make it look good.

This seam is the one that needs to be painted carbonized gray to match the steps.

I'll be doing the same if/when my badsquatch arrives.. my wife is 5'3", so I want it to be a bit easier for her to get in/out. I never plan on rock crawling, so I can skip the rock rails

I, too am vertically challenged. 5' 8" on a good day. I just like the idea of having a little something there to "step up" onto when climbing into my (Sasquatch-equipped) Bronco, with the help of the grab handle, and hop off of when I pivot to exit the vehicle.

I wonder if the steps are sturdy enough to "act" as rock rails, even in a supporting role, when called upon.

Yeah, it's noticeable now that you mention it. Weird, huh?

So I guess the side steps replace the rock rails on the Bronco when equipped with...?

I hear you, SlashRacer. I grew up in New York, and could always count on an iceberg forming behind the wheels after a snowfall. I thought it was interesting that I could not order mud flaps for the Bronco if I ordered side steps on my 2021 virtual build. They didn't look like they would have interfered with one another!

Interesting point. I began virtually building Big Bends; perhaps I'm mistaken about having added them to my 2021 Badlands Sasquatch build. I may have built them on a lower model, one that doesn't provide rock rails. Now I'm going to go try and virtually build another Big Bend to see if the side steps are available. I've been focusing on Badlands more than anything nowadays.

Nice catch. Those look pretty good.

My wife could really use some steps to get in but I don't want anything to hang too low. The Ford steps made it harder for me to get in so those are out of the question. I pre-ordered some automatic step sliders from Rock Slide Engineering. Hopefully they'll come in over the next few weeks.
