I always thought this was very promising. However things seem to have gone radio silent for some time now. Is this yet another example of promise more deliver less from Ford? Anyone have reliable update info?

Is there a brief explanation of the issues? I have always used a Garmin in my vehicles. At first Ford wanted $275, each time, to update the maps in my 2017 F-150 King Ranch. They now have a package for $50 annually. I tried to explain to them that I can by a good Garmin for $170ish and get free life time map updates. Jeep did the same thing back in 2009 when we bought my wives JK Unlimited Sahara. Same price range 12 years ago. They don't get it. I know a lot of folks that use their smart phones now.

I saw a story this week that Toyota is now looking into charging a month fee for the use of you smart key FOB. The story also wondered what other feature on your car could they charge you for. Time to get out the horse and buggy. This would work in San Francisco as they already pay folks $75K a year to pick up people poop...they can add horse poop to their job description.

Brief explanation - as far as. I can tell this is vaperware. It does not exist as promised. Supposed to be included for free too.

Thanks for your reply. I see you have a MIC top. Are you having any issues? I have a BL, noSAS, 33" A/T w/bead lock wheels, MIC, High, Hot Pepper on order. I was hoping to see it in maybe July/Aug 22, but now I wonder. I placed my order on 12/09/21. MERRY CHRISTMAS!! Dave

As I understand it, they pushed it to "sometime in 2022" ... so, yes, it's vaporware for now.

OnX just announced Apple Carplay support. So, if you have an Apple phone, you could use that. Sounds like many of the same features, and it's available now. BTW, before someone points out that your phone only works when you're in cell range, that's not the case with OnX. You can download the map/route into your phone while you ARE in cell range, and then use it with just the GPS feature of your phone once you are out of cell range. You just won't be able to make any changes/updates until you get back in cell range.

I think that car companies are going to have to push a suite of subscription services to stay afloat, especially once electric vehicles start to make more and more sense. I suspect this app is being driven to that model. I'd be surprised if Ford releases it without some way to make sure they either can't lose a lawsuit when someone gets in over their head following their guide, or they can monetize it to the point that the risk is worth it.

For now, though, I'm convinced that it is lawyers vs salespeople and the lawyers are winning. This app is probably worth paying for in a lot of ways. We drive places we've been to sometimes, but I'm always looking for something new. We going on a trip this week and I'd love to just send some routes to the Bronco of the trails we'd like to visit. At this point, I'd just be fine being able to upload .gpx files or similar to ours. Sucks to have this huge screen in the middle of the dash and the marked trails are totally unreliable. It will include a "trail" that a coyote might use once per year, and omit a popular one.

As I said about, I recommend OnX, that's what I use right now. You figure out what area your going to 4-wheel in, then download the map in OnX to your phone, and *poof* you have your trail on the 12" screen in your Bronco.

I just loaded a bunch up to GaiaGPS. Will that work similarly? We're leaving for a 3 day trip to San Bernardino tomorrow. My wife is out with her Bronco this evening.

I run the Gaia app on my Bronco and it works pretty well. It doesn’t zoom out to the state level and you can’t start recording from the dash, but the screen zooms and pans. It displays the tracks you have loaded or recorded as well.

Very similar apps, so you should be good. Just make sure your prepared to go offline.

I know this is an old post, but my 2022 bronco Wildtrak came with a video about this app. Anyone heard anything more or can Bronco Nation help support efforts to communicate interest with Ford?

At one point near the end of last year, Matt Winter told us it likely won't be out this year. It was for sure a no-go in 2022, but I don't know if that's been cemented for '23 yet, so I haven't mentioned it previously.

Ford has been demonstrating a significant desire to create and support a dedicated fan base for the Bronco. If they don't pursue the app (and I wouldn't necessarily blame them, it's way outside their core business), perhaps they will choose a worthy third-party navigation app and provide an appropriate investment to partner with Bronco Nation. Perhaps adding a customized portal for Ford Pass? Hopefully someone at Ford is already working on this.

Prepare yourself for Life as a Subscription. It's just a matter of time.

I'm not a fan of Car Play, but I love my Garmin Fenix and I'm looking get one of their devices for the Bronco. I actually use my Fenix when I'm tracking through the desert, but not for navigation. It would be cool if Ford just got in bed with Garmin for this functionality. Easier said than done I'm sure, but I said it anyway.

Just saying, I love Waze and it does work very well through Car Play!

Just found out my OnX off road is tied into Android Auto. Will test this weekend and see how well it works. Still, would be nice to have a working factory app as marketed with the Bronco.

I have been using the OnX OffRoad and it works really well with the Android Auto. Nice to have it displayed on the 12" screen.
