Do you plan to rotate all 5 of your tires? Some people don't. The sun degrades the rubber on that stationary tire.

I plan to rotate all 5 at this point. Not a big Goodyear fan so I will be switching tires when these wear out.

Nope 4 tire only.cover on spare keeps sun off it.A lot of tires have directional tread. Can't do 5 tire rotation with them. The above diagram is wrong for radial tires.cross rotation for 4x4

There is also the natural aging of rubber in the tires regardless of UV from the sun...tires only have about 6 years life and then should be replaced. This was made very clear to all drivers when the Firestone tires were failing on Explorers a few years ago. There is a manufacturer code on the tire that will let you know when it was made. For this reason, I always rotate all five tires.

Yeah, 25 years of 4wd vehicles with radials of any brand and front to back rotation and no problems with abnormal tire wear.

Keep in mind they have all been FORD vehicles. I can't speak to all of those lesser manufacturers .

Ford was Failing the Firestone tires, the tires technically if used per specs of the tires were fine, the Explorer was the issue.

To rotate directional radial tires like that would require you to unmount each tire and remount on the other wheel . That means you will have "WRANGLER" exposed from the inside of the stock BL Bronco tires :)

The wifes MB also has directional wheels but haven't even thought about if the Bronco wheels will be directional . Probably not .

Here is another point: Stored tires last for a limited amount of time as they aren’t lubricated. When you ride a tire, the heated oils within it circulate and grease the rubber, preventing premature drying. When it’s in storage, the oils and emollients dry out, causing known consequences. Since even long-lasting rubber eventually ages, it’s recommended to not use a 10+ year old tire.

The spare tire needs to be put into the rotation cycle.

Does the spare have a TPMS already installed? I had a Chevy with full size spare on matching wheel and wanted to do 5 tire rotation, but it required 2 hrs and $100 at the dealership to add a TPMS and they still had to reprogram the head unit.

That brings up another modern tire rotation question for Ford that they hopefully do better than GM...when you rotate the tires, there should be an EASY (and free) way to tell the head unit which tire is where. Otherwise, the only time your tire pressure indicators are correct is original tire location. Come on auto industry....do better!!!

Discount tire can use their tool to reprogram which tire goes where and didn't charge me.. No need to take anything off unless like you said if it had no tpms.

Isn’t the TPMS at the wheel mount? I think it automatically resets for most manufacturers once the tires are rotated. Shouldn’t be a problem. Good question about the spare though.

No, you go front to back with directional. Not cross.
Wranglers wear so fast you would have to rotate them once a week. after putting a few sets on my F150, I'm so disgusted the only thing I would put them is a truck thats going to the junkyard.

The only reason those PIA things exist is because people are too lazy to check their tires.Another nanny and another thing to add weight and cost to a vehicle.Even with the TPMS people are still riding around on under inflated tires.

I have a friend that worked for a firestone dealer when the recall occurred. He believed the tire failures where due to under inflation. They replaced thousands of tires with over 50,000 miles on them. It cost firestone a couple buck because people didn’t check their air pressure. Which is why tpms are on all new vehicles. It’s all about liability.

Underinflation was the primary reason...but it was when they explained the life of a tire that I had my eyes opened and understood the tire clearance sales in the past.

Yep, Discount Tire will not put a 10 year old tire on your car. I have some 10 year old winter tires that I was rotating on and off every winter on separate rims. Wouldn't even swap them on the car.
