5.0 vs 2.7

Ok we all love the sound of a v8 but is there really a power advantage to the 5.0 over the 2.7 I know in the f-150 that the 2.7 is faster than the 5.0 in fact except for the na 3.3 v6 the 5.0 is the slowest F-150 don't get me wrong I Love the 5.0 and if I were to buy a mustang it would definitely have a 5 0. unless they put the new 6.8 in the mustang lol

5.0 = 400 hp at 6000 rpm
410 ft lbs at 4250

2.7 = 330 hp at 5250
415 ft lbs at 3100 on premium fuel

the 2.7 makes more torque and it makes it lower in the rpm band than the f-150 5.0 it's lighter and more fuel efficient
but it sure doesn't sound as good
let's keep this thread about internal combustion I will ask the mods to lock it if it goes of the rails!

Weight vs. power return favors the 2.3, and 2.7 doesn't it ?

EV's are gay, period.

Remember, smaller turbo engines make good gains but tap out where bigger ones basically start out

really it's all about rpm with a different cam shaft or maybe slightly bigger turbos the 2.7 could make as much or more hp at 6000 rpm

It's hard to deny that the Ecoboost motors put down some pretty impressive numbers and have proven themselves to be more than up to the task of hauling around a Bronco, BUT if the Bronco would have been available with a V8, that's what would be in my Bronco right now. Wouldn't have given it a second thought. Although horsepower and torque numbers are important, it doesn't stir my emotions like the sound of a great V8. It would have made the Bronco the total package. There are a lot more to a vehicle than numbers.

So you all want to say the 2.7 is quicker. :unsure: Quite possibly it is, but I'm going to assume not by all that much.

My question for everyone is.... Which engine will last longer? I've driven (2) 351's (84 & 93) Bronco, both past 200k miles. My 2012 Mustang V6 (Naturally aspirated) to 235k+ miles. Yet everywhere I turn I find it hard to find anyone who's taken a turbo engine past 200k.

So personally, I'd take a V8 that sounds way better, is naturally aspirated, and maybe 1 second slower than a turbo anything. Maybe I'm just the oddball for keeping my vehicles longer than most, but I like to feel confident that the engine won't be going after 150k miles.

Off road complexity is not a good thing...l‘d take a non turbo 5.0 in a heartbeat at over the turbo engines! The one in my mustang makes pretty good HP and with the supercharger (not recommend off road) over 700...

have a 2010 flex with the 3.5 ecoboost has over 200k don't know the exact number and other than basic maintenance all I've replaced is the fuel pump

That's why I have a 2018 F150 5.0 with a Whipple Supercharger putting 700rwhp to the ground. But it is a sleeper for sure 11.5@121 6200lbs was my best time.

I agree with you 100% I LOVE the sound d of a v8 I have several and if the desire for a v8 is about sound and nostalgia I'm cool with that but from a power perspective the 2.7 is the winner in my mind

the 5.0 is absolutely absolutely bad ass and can make incredible power with boost!

Turbo or N/A? Because you'd be the 1st to tell me you've got over 200k on a turbo engine. And if that's the case, it makes me feel better about my 2.7.

At the same time though, I've heard nothing but complaints about the longevity of turbos.

So we would be able to get a slightly bigger turbo? Not a mechanic here, just wondering because if it helps I'm ready to upgrade

I believe Hennessy Conversions did a Bronco 2.7 with larger turbos, bigger Intercooler and a ported manifold and got 400hp and 500tq.

So it seems like this thread is really about about N/A v. Forced Induction, right?

Because let’s face it, who doesn’t love the growl of a big, mean V8?!?

I’m with ya on the longevity, I’d take the one that lasts longer and is more reliable. I had 2014 F-150 with the 3,5 ecoboost (sold it to wait for my bronco) and never had any trouble with it, loved that truck. I’m hoping (praying) for a similar experience with the 2.7. I am no engine nut you guys talk all these numbers but I also am curious that I would believe from a layman’s perspective that the x.x turbo would be quicker with good torque and hp but like someone else brought up isn’t it wrapping up when a 5.0 is getting warmed up?

Now I’m sure you can do anything with either engine with enough money, I am only talking about Stock “As Built” versions/engines.
