4Dr Fuel Tank Capacity

Anyone know the true fuel capacity for a 4dr Bronco? I know it says 20.8. However, I was down to an estimated one mile before empty and I filled up over 21 gallons. So, I am curious if there is a "reserve" amount of fuel, a gallon or two for safety. My Jeep Grand Cherokee was down to zero miles before empty once, and it still drove me safely to a gas station for many miles. Yes, I like pushing my limits. Lol. Cheers.

Iโ€™m sure there is a small reserve, not sure how much. A little will fit in the fill neck, so if you were literally on fumes, you probably could fit 21 gallons. My daughter and I like to push it to the limit also, but my wife and son are horrified by that ๐Ÿ˜

Amazingly I have not had to find out. But it did take almost 21 gallons one time.

I prefer to fill at least at the 1/8 tank level. Some fuel keeps the fuel pump cooler. I don't like to give the pump a chance to overheat.

I can't speak specifically to the 4dr, but I have always found on all the vehicles i've owned, going to E on the gauge is not completely empty. You'll have 1-2 gallons to go. It might be a hold over from back in the day when the gauge was based on an actual float in the tank that couldn't go all the way to the bottom. Maybe that is still the case with even electronic sensors, that they can't sense all the way down so 21 gals is what they can sense but there is still some gas yet in the tank when they say you're on E. my 2 cents.

My old man (3rd gen mechanic) always told me there are two things to remember about fueling up:
1. Never fuel up at a gas station if they are re-fueling tanks (this stirs up sediment that is in bottom of the tanks)
2. When you get to 1/4 of a tank, plan to fuel up ASAP to prevent fuel pump/line issues.

Always done this and never had fuel issues!!

These are not common practices, but rather rare occasions. Appreciate the tip!

Should be at least 3 gallons to submerge the fuel pump in I believe, don't want to push it that far but reason I mounted a Roto-Pax just in case. If you ever go out to Big Bend in Texas you can find gas stations are quite a long ways away from some places
