315's or 35's???

So I'm coming up on 50k miles on my stock Goodyears that are a size 315-70-17. I've decided on the Yokohama Geolander AT-X as my replacement tires, but my quandary is there's big differences in the OEM tire and a like 35-12.5-17 tire of the same make and model.

The 315-70-17 load range is C2, max PSI is 35, weight is 61.06 lbs, overall diameter is 34.6
The 35-12.5-17 load range is E2, max PSI is 65, weight is 71 lbs, overall diameter is 34.8

Question is, which one of the two would you purchase and why? Which would be better on a 4 door Wildtrak that sees way more concrete than rocks?

TIA
Kenneth

Most 315/70R17's are not 35's. They will measure about 33 1/4" after they are mounted and under the vehicle weight. A 35 like a 35x12.5R17 will be about 34 1/4" when mounted and under vehicle weight.

I have Flaken Wildpeak A/T4W in 35x11.5R17. Mine are C rated and weight about 68 pounds.

Do you want a larger tire? If not, then stick with the 315's..

Agree with above… go with 35 and I too like the Falken wildpeak tires lots of pavement go with AT for sure… I rum MT on last 2 jeeps plus my F150 and had no issue with them .

You've done well getting 50k on your GY Territories! I've got 15k on ours & there's no way they'll see 50k.

We've had only 1 set of Yokohama Geolander ATs and didn't like 'em, changed them out for BFGs. The X-AT, their hybrid tire has a 45k warranty.

For more highway miles, gotta luv WildPeak's AT3 & new AT4's 60k warranty. Heck, Nitto's Recon AT has a 55k warranty and BFG's KO2, new KO3 and Mickey Thompson's Boss AT all have 50ks.

Suggest throwing a bigger net before settling on your next meats..

I currently have the Geolander AT-X 35x12.5x17 tires. Probably more then what I need 90% of the time, but I have gotten into a few situations where I was glad to have the extra beef they provide. I'm guessing they have a little more road noise then the Goodyears, but overall I've been pretty happy with the off road performance. Have 43K miles on them now and am thinking they will last till 50k pretty easily...

this guy does all kinds of reviews on off road tires. a bit of a rabbit hole but he has some really good info. this is a review of the BFG K02 and K03s and another K03 but he talks about load ranges and such. he probably has the Geolanders somewhere on the channel.

By the way I am a firm believer that different people have different luck with tire brands, I cannot own Firestones or Nittos but other brands are fine Falkens and Hankooks have been some of the best tires I have ever owned. your millage may differ.

Yeah, Nathan at Outdoor Auto is definitely YouTube's off-road tire nerd - Good stuff too! Here's a gereral review on chosing the best tire for your useage from last year. Since there're several new tires out, he'll probably post an updated version soon.

The ride quality may be stiffer on the 35x12.5 E2 over the 315-70 C2. E has more sidewall plies to support more weight. I would chose a C load tire. The heavier tire will also affect performance and gas mileage.

I'm going to second this recommendation for emphasis. That E load tire will definitely feel stiffer on the road.

Yeah sure, if you don't need more durable tires, don't buy 'em - Get the tires that best meet YOUR needs!
