2DR vs 4DR

I've been mulling this over for some time, do I go with a 2dr or a 4dr, can't make up my mind and don't want to buy until I've done just that.
Does the 4dr have a better stability for overlanding? or would the 2dr be more stable with a less lengthy chassy? I dont expect to need the space of the 4dr, I could always put a cargo box on top or a hitch rack if needed with a 2dr.

Opinions? facts? thoughts? help a brother out lol.

I have a 2dr, and I love it. On the downside it is more difficult to get items that are in the back seat, or for people to get in the back Seat. If you have the rear seats folded down it's not hard to access the cargo. The ride might be a little rougher due to the shorter wheelbase. Others may have more to say, but I love mine. 😊

I am dealing with this same decision. I am leaning to 2-Dr based off it just looks more classic and “bad-ass” in my humble opinion.

I only have 2K miles on my 2-door, but here's my situation and thoughts leading up to the decision...
- I have 3 kids, but 2 are 19 and in college, so it's rare that all 5 of us are in the car together nowadays. We still have an Expedition for longer road trips, and even the 4-door Bronco would not work for 5 of us plus bags for a trip anyway.
- The back seat is a little challenging for entry / exit, but don't think it's any less comfortable once you are back there. Legroom and visibility are about the same as 4-door. Took our first road trip with 3 adult sized folks (15 year old son is my size) last weekend, one of the seats folded down for cooler and bags. It was fine with some planning. However, if you need the back seat frequently, it would be painful.
- Hard top with one fewer panel - less to remove when it's time and less rattle / leak potential. Fewer doors to remove also!
- Of course there is the emotional / intangible aspects - such as profile, styling, easier to park, more unique / rare on the road.

One more thing I forgot about. The gas tank is smaller on the 2dr. Not a huge difference, but may be a deal breaker for some. 16.9 gallon tank on 2dr, 20.8 gallon tank on 4dr.

If you're going for overlanding, note that the 2-door has a slightly smaller gas tank (16.9) than the 4-door (20.8) but nothing jerry cans can't take care of. Good luck on your choice; either would be excellent to own!

I'm a 2 door guy for no other reason than appearance...and it's just me. If I were to win the lotto and be told I had to buy another Bronco it would still be a 2 door. Just my preference. They both have pro's and con's in the back country or around town. Pretty sure you can't go wrong with either. Just get the one you want is all I can really tell you.
This is also the reason for my 2 door love!

My only Option was a 4-door but I do love the extra room. we have traveled a few times with a couple with a 2-door and they have to get creative with luggage placement for just weekend trips. It is a huge difference between the 2-door and 4-door in storage. Also there is a little more support as far as accessories for the 4-door, wait time for 2-door specific parts is very long, I hear. I grew up with 2nd Gen through 5th gen Broncos I was in my 20's before I saw my first 1st Gen so the 2-door looks a little toy-ish (especially on 37") I am used to the size of my 1984 I think I could fit my 4-door inside that thing. That said when we are ready to add another Bronco it will probably be a 2-door, They are just cool. but it might come down to what ever you can get when the time comes, either way you cant go wrong.
Edit: to be clear Toys are cool.

In March 3 of us and 3 dogs went to moab UT from Washington state. Took enough to stay 7days. 16 hrs of travel each way. We were not in moab for the full 7 days but visited family while we were down there. All of it fit inside our 4dr.

We could not have done that in a two door, not enough room.

Food 4 thought

Thanks! Last Summer! Two of six sons and their families. Just before my USAF son moved to new station in Georgia and my other son lives on a tropical island in the middle of the Pacific… Youngest in the picture is my sidekick, who I babysat full-time for a year back in 2018-19… She’s got a little brother arriving this summer, so they will be here for that arrival!

I can hardly wait!

Besides the space considerations of the four door, I think you need to consider what you want to do in terms of driving the rig…

Most people spend the majority (maybe 90%) of miles on paved roads, many at highway speed. I think for those miles the longer wheelbase (16 inches or so) makes ALOT of sense for stability and highway worthiness. The GOAT modes and Sasquatch package give me plenty of confidence for those times I will spend off-road.

If your plan is to spend many weekends a year off-road and pressing the Bronco to its edges of abilities, I would opt for the 2-door. The shorter wheelbase will certainly improve the entrance and exit from inclines, and may let you get into and out of places you might otherwise not be able to without said wheelbase. HOWEVER, on the road, and particularly if the road is slick, or icy, the 2-door will be similar to the old CJ-5 I coveted as a child, but opted away from specifically because of the short wheelbase…

Think this way…. If you spin a cube-shaped block across a sheet of ice, it will spin much more than a rectangular-shaped block…

As I mentioned earlier, I owned a 1G (EB) Bronco and the 2-door made it really difficult with more than two occupants…

my 2 cents…
