Can anyone shed some light on the horsepower pick up with the new optional power pack. It advertises a 25-30 hp pick up but requires premium fuel. However the Ford website quotes the 2.3l at 275 hp with regular fuel but will achieve premium fuel 300 hp. Does that mean you would get an additional 25-30 after the addition of the power pack for a total 50-60 hp over the 275 hp with regular. If not why spend $1000 for the power pack when you can get the same 25 hp pick up by just using premium fuel? # confused

What power pack? Link

Assuming the horsepower gains from the power pack would be in addition to the premium fuel hp gains. So 275hp regular fuel, 300hp with premium fuel, 325hp with premium fuel + power pack.

@dowhitma is referring to the custom engine tuning Ford provides via the Ford Performance website. The 2.3L Bronco power pack has been announced but not yet released.

But you are correct, the tune would be in addition to the premium fuel gains. The default factory tune is a little more "idiot proof". If you don't know how to take care of your vehicle and run the same air filter for 60,000 miles, for example, not a huge deal with a factory tune. Not ideal for sure, but not a huge deal.

Do the same thing with a Ford Performance tune and it's going to get struggle big time once that air intake starts getting restricted. Airflow for the power packs is so important that Ford usually provides a brand-new air intake setup for most of their power packs (or at least a high airflow filter).

I’ll gladly pay up if I get anything for the cost. If I’m going to 325 hp from 275 no problem

Cool. Tks. Yes I been waiting for it since last year and thought it released. I have a S&B high flow velocity top filter on my 2.3. Much better than K&N. Just wonder how the power pack will shorten the engine life. If the engine can handle whatever is thrown at it without the tune i.e. high consistent revs offroad then I may just stay with premium fuel only. Probably not though lol20220204_134244.jpg20220204_134306.jpg20220204_134336.jpg20220204_134435.jpg

I had the 2.3 in my 2019 Ranger. I chipped it and it moved out quite nicely once chipped. If you’re subject to smog checks, you have to pull the chip, (negative battery terminal off) and then have to put an hour or two on the road so that it’ll pass smog. If you don’t put time on it unchipped, they’ll fail you for no history

Seems to me that if you're going to spend $1000 more on the upgrade of your engine to get 30 more h.p., why didn't you opt for the 2.7., it added an additional $1500 on the MSRP without needing to ask more from the 2.3. I drove one with a 2.3, and realized it's too small of an engine for that size of vehicle. Yeah it gets better mileage but just don't have the umph.

And be sure to let that intercooler breathe! Don’t go blocking it with a bumper or winch that doesn’t take turbo into account.

There are good options that won’t adversely affect airflow, but sure seems like many others are going to hurt performance.

Dang, 25 horsepower just by using premium actually seems pretty impressive of a gain.

Another option is K&N filter and MBRP cat back exhaust which will give you an additional 25+ BHP and is relatively simple to install.

I wonder if they will have the tune for the Everglades or if that Snorkel screws with it.

I am sure if I just add a turbo sticker and a wing that would be good for 15-20 hp gain. :ROFLMAO:

Doubt a Catback will provide any power, it's just noise and weight reduction

My WAG is that the power pack will have calibrations for E85.
