2.3L Engine Oil Capacity with filter change? 5.7qt or 6.0qt (2022 Badlands)

What is the engine oil capacity for 2.3L Bronco with filter change?

I changed my oil on my 2.3L and used the manual as a reference and filled it to 6.0qt.

However, when my bronco was at the dealership for 120 days, they changed my oil at no charge.
Last week I changed my oil and was always curious how much oil would come out with a filter change.
I let it drain for 30+ minutes with dipstick pulled and fill cap removed, to ensure there was no vacuum holding any oil in the system. I was on level ground and the engine was warm.
Long story short after draining for 30+ minutes I only got 5.7qt.

In the below picture I used a sharpie to mark where the 5qt and 1qt marks were.
You can see that the 1qt bottle is only at the 700ml mark.

I then combine all the oil into the 5qt jug in the second picture.
So this tells me that the dealership only put in 5.7qt.

Ford Service Content website shows 5.7qt: Ford Service LINK
Owners Manual (6/22/2022) shows 6.0qt:

So which is it ??
Does the 2.3L take 5.7qt or 6.0qt ??

======== UPDATE ==========
After having the bronco sit overnight the dipstick with the 6.0qt shows a perfect reading.
I will continue to use 6.0qt

I already know the 2.7L issue, and have known that for a few years now... but i never saw any threads or comments on the 2.3L and thought I was in the clear until this last oil change and then I started researching..... and found nothing. Thus the post here :)

I think I just answered my own question and will stick to using 6.0qt.

My vehicle has been sitting overnight and I just checked the oil level about 7 times.

6.0qt's is perfectly between the hi-low marks on the dipstick.

You figured it out, but just to answer the original question...

The 2.3L EcoBoost used to be 5.7 quarts when it first launched in 2015. Around 2019 they made some minor updates to fix a few oiling/cooling issues and as a result the capacity is now 6 quarts.

The service website link you posted was actually from the 2016 Explorer manual, which had the original design.

6 Quarts = 5.7 Liters. I think the content website probably used the wrong units behind the 5.7

Think you spend too much time checking your dipstick.

In the middle is totally fine and I doubt you find any gains in 5k oil changes by going to the top line. Overfilling is way worse.

No, cuz it says 5.4 Liters next to the 5.7 Qts :)

I agree, in the middle is the 6.0qt amount I put in after my oil change this past weekend.

It's 3/10 of a quart. You will never know the difference. The above says 5.7 liters.

Having looked at this thread and reviewed the email sent to me. The one with the the seven steps regarding checking and adding oil.
By the way this reminds me of a sign I saw in a sandwich shop, chain store, that said all employees must wash their hands before leaving the bathroom. It also had a second sign that had a six step process how to wet, soap, wash, rinse, and dry your hands, I know I forgot one of the steps. It made me think to keep your hands clean did you need to call a fellow worker to have them open the door so your hands didn't touch a spot on the door from someone who didn't follow the 6 step hand washing process. In which case you couldn't leave and may be stuck in the bathroom the rest of the day, because the process didn't have a decision tree to break the ongoing loop. I hated when that happened in my old I/T operation days. You would call the programmer and they would say let it run another hour after the program had been in a loop for 2 hrs.

Any way back to the oil issue. As I read more of the thread I began to wonder if the key word in this thread is DIPSTICK!!

I also loved the part that said, you have to put the dipstick back. But why if the dipstick is the problem?

Happy New Year to all, and hope this is the biggest issue we Bronco owners have in 2024!

Interesting read. Did my first oil change and 6 quarts is middle of the range. Anyone run 6.5 quarts to the full line?
