Next year 2026 will be the 100th anniversary of route 66. I'm currently planning my trip next April/May. Going to start in Chicago and drive probably halfway. I only have 2 weeks to take off so I doubt I can do the whole thing. It'll take one day just to get to Chicago and I need at least 3 days to get home. 2026 will be the best time to do that trip.

Awesome I love the Mother Road.
We did about 30 miles of Route 66 on the way hove from Moab a couple of weeks ago. You should watch cars and read the book Route 66 The Mother Road by Michael Wallis, they used his book as inspiration and they liked his voice so much they cast him as the Sheriff.

Yup I've read the book. I enjoy the podcast The route 66 podcast.

2026 is a banner year. 100th anniversary of Route 66 AND the 60th anniversary of the BRONCO! Well, of its introduction to masses, anyway…

I am privy to a few things that are acknowledging these observations. 😉
Chris here. I drive a 2-door Velocity Blue 2023 Ford Bronco Badlands with Sasquatch, Lux, a 2.7L V6, and an automatic transmission. It’s fun.

We've participated in the route 66 fun run in northern Arizona several times.
It brings in around 400 vehicles ranging from model T to 1000 HP hot rods. Normally we're with the cobra club.
We run down the old highway past berma shave signs. Ending up in Kingman Arizona. It's so much fun.
We'll miss this year but make sure for next.

Did much of this 13 years ago, it is something to experience. I may be wrong, thinking this will become a travel nightmare. Too many tourists from all over will want to be a part of this. Prefer the less is more experience. Best of good times to all who participate, I'm sure it will be a memorable experience. Enjoy!
