For all you GMRS types- the new midland MXT575 is out.

https://midlandusa.com/collections/micromobile/products/mxt575-micromobile®two-way-radio
This is the 50 watt version of the MXT275. The 275 is 15 watt (This is the one I run in my vehicle and I have never had an issue with it), but I guess if you need all that power, here is an option. The 275/575 allows you to remote mount the head unit and the controls are on the handset for hidden set-up (if that's your thing).
There are some issues with the Midland approach to GMRS (split-tones, band width etc), but its an easy radio to use out of the box and it will do most everything you want to do for trail communications. Just thought I would flag it.

I got the 575 and am trying to figure out where to install it. It's much bigger than the 275. FWIW it does split-tones and wideband.

There is supposed to be room above the glove-box, but its a tight fit. A lot of folks like to put remote units under a seat, but be careful with water and such.

Did you ever figure out where to put the 575?

I got the 575 mounted under the dash. Right under the area where the wireless charging pad is. Wired it to Aux #2. ran the antenna through the firewall to the left trail sight. Used this connector from Amazon to connect the Mic right next to the USB ports.

I'm looking at possibly getting the 575. Any pics of your install?

If anyone is interested, I have four extra cat6 plugs from my install. The one I wanted only came in a pack of 5. Let me know if you want one and I’ll mail it out. Free of charge.

I pretty much followed this walkthrough with the exception of the mounting of the unit under the dash. I had to get creative with that because of the limited space for the larger unit. If I ever take it back apart, I will take some pics.

I’m consistently surprised at how much of this thing just “Pops” off.

I am in the same boat... was actually considering running a Cat 5e/Cat 6 splitter at the radio and running more wire to place an additional jacks in the Bronco... Cargo area maybe for easier use at a basecamp?

Ive seen that done with Midland 275/575 series and I really like that setup. If you like to hang out at the tailgate, I think thats a great trick. Run the Cat 5 port out by the 12v plug by the subwoofer/cubby and there you go. Another good reason to wire direct to your battery I guess.
