Hi all- so I planning on going with the manual but a friend gave me second thoughts because he said it will be a slow highway mover. For a guy who does plan on more highway than off roaring is the automatic with bigger engine a better choice?

I find that hard to believe. That is why it is a 7-speed it has 6 drive gears and one granny/ crawler gear. It gives you the best of both worlds. That is the option I ordered the BL with the MT.

Welcome to BN!

You are not alone in this quandary, but one thing we do know is 2.3 will have plenty of power to move the Bronc especially with the gearing. With that, the Bronc will be a real hot rod with the 2.7! Both are good motors and comes down to personal preference and how much you want the manual. For me, manual was a must have so I was willing to compromise on some power.

Thanks. Which also means that you probably didn't go with the Sasquatch given timeline right? 33's? I think they will still look plenty Buffy with 33's

You can do what I did. I went to my Ford dealer and asked him to test drive vehicles with both types of engines. Made my decision easier.

Go test drive a Ranger with the 2.3, then a F150 with the 2.7. It'll give you an idea of what the Bronco will feel like on the road.

I test drove both as well, Ranger and F-150. Love the 2.7 but was also impressed with the 2.3, has plenty of power. I am staying course with manual and 2.3. (y)

Yes getting the 33” no squatch. I am not a big fan of the Sasquatch wheels. I can get a nice set of wheels and tires for the extra, and get something I want. I am running 33’s on my F250 they are plenty of tire.

I also test drove a Ranger crew cab and was very pleased with it. I just bought a Chevy Nox with a 2.0T with 252 hp and that is an impressive car the Ranger had a better power delivery, the turbo spools up smoother. My Nox takes off with pep then the turbo lights and it kinda surprises you. Torque steer and all. But fun for a replacement for my tired Cobalt with 357k miles.

I went 2.3L manual also.

I was all about the 2.7L, but for my needs and the old philosophy of bigger displacement was debunked for me.

Bigger isn't always better.

Also keep in mind if you go with automatic you don't get the 4.7 final gear ratio unless you go SAS. Manual you get the 4.7 gears.

I don't understand why the trans is part of your question. Are you asking about the gearing of the auto vs manual, or the amount of power the engine puts out. The manual and auto have similar gearing at low and high gears, so the transmission won't make a difference in highway speed. The engine might. The differential gearing might.

I had a 2.3t Mustang convertible that was automatic, total beast and after mods, really flew

311whp without downpipe or wastegate actuator, probably 330++ after, that on the Mustang basically is 373-395 crank. Long story on why its Auto, wasnt my first choice but I digress.

If anything, got plenty of drop in big turbos for power, you'll definitely out hustle most vehicles on the road regardless, real question is whats the limit for the clutch/trans?

I wonder why you have trail assist, auto-axle-lock, torque vectoring, sway bar breaking and all those automatic GOAT modes then the single thing you want manual is the trans? Seems like asking for a manual choke but maybe someone can illuminate what I'm missing :)

The new tech features are cool and I can understand why the demand is there for those but for me, some things are best done the old fashioned way. There is something about a manual that gives you the feeling of being one with the vehicle.
