How can I tell if my 84 300 is an industrial or standard

Odds are it's standard. I found a lengthy post about it on the ford-trucks.com forum. I can post the link here if you want to read the whole thing. Bottom line is if yours originally had an EGR valve and catalytic converter, it's standard. HDs did not have those, and were not legal for CA.

Here's the post. Seems that there's very little difference between them, mainly the crankshaft material, and maybe the valves.
