Ford Hard Tops Announcement: Delivered Tops Replaced, Unscheduled Orders Move to MY22

Ford has sent out an awareness communication about an upcoming customer satisfaction program: All Broncos delivered with an affected MIC hard top will be receiving a replacement. Additionally, all unscheduled hard top orders will move to MY22.

The Issue

The company states that certain 2021 Broncos equipped with a MIC hard top roof are experiencing roof panel delamination when exposed to extreme water and humidity. The issue, identified during quality inspections, relates to appearances and not functionality.

Delivered MIC Hard Top Broncos

On delivered Broncos, dealers will replace all hard top roof panels and install new rear quarter glass in the new rear cap. However, Ford says parts are not currently available to complete the required repair, and a complete dealer bulletin will be provided to dealers by the end of the 3rd quarter 2021, once the service kits become available.

Unscheduled MIC Hard Top Orders

A separate FAQ went out addressing unscheduled orders: Except for First Editions, all hard top customers without a current production scheduling date will be receiving a MY22 Bronco.

Soft Top Orders

Bronco orders with soft tops are not affected by this communication, whether your order is currently scheduled for production or not.

  1. I know this was a hard decision for Ford and will be taken hard by all of us Bronco fans, but I think it is the right thing to do with the number of issues that have been occurring with the MIC tops. Good job to the Ford team for ripping the bandaid off and moving forward.

  2. I appreciate the (overdue) candour, which at least allows those of us with orders to make informed decisions moving forward. That said, as a VIN holder since April, with a build date that has been bumped 5x, I would like some reassurance that even though my build date will continue to slide, it will not disappear (be cancelled) entirely. In other words, I WILL, by years end, be receiving my 2021 2 Door Big Bend.

    1. I have a vin also with the same 2 door big bend build. I guess my build date is no longer the week of the 16th. wonder when ill get the email for that next bump.

  3. I think we all saw this coming, I just don’t think we realized the extent of the issues with the top. I can certainly wait as I would rather have my Bronco done right and I’m sure a few other issues will get resolved in the meantime. Kudos to Ford and the Bronco team for making this difficult decision.

  4. Not sure if I should wait or cancel and buy something else. My winter ride is broken so I’m gonna have to buy something regardless. Not happy but not surprised.

  5. kinda sucks that they are only honoring price protection for orders march 19th and earlier, ordered mine in july, not good pr FORD !!!!!!

  6. This is a perfect example of why I decided to wait, I knew there would be issues especially in the beginning of new model.

  7. Kind of a crappy message and certainly not what many of us want to hear…but at least it appears they have a plan…

    1. Makes sense to fix known issues now. I have waited this long; I can wait a little longer to get a better Bronco in MY2022.

  8. It was definitely a rational decision. We all know what a pain it is to take our vehicles to the dealer and wait hours or days for scheduling. Prefer to receive my 4-door BLK DMD MIC SAS, in a operable and enjoyable piece of machinery. I am an August 21, 2020 stake-holder.

  9. I ordered my vehicle in July 2020, still no build date or vin number, patients are running thin. My dealer told me there Ford store was a stand alone dealership. What does that mean? I just have the Black top but it must be all tops ( hardtops).

  10. Will dealer Mannequin tops be replaced before or after building the orders of those that just had early reservations/orders bumped to ‘22my?
It has been frustrating to see dealers get builds very similar to my order/limited items.

  11. My reservation was April. I think Ford should honor the price protection to everyone that made a reservation before the announcement was made due to the fact that in April I was told I could possibly still get a 21MY. It seems like the right thing to do.

  12. our reservation date was day 2 with confirming our reservation in January the first week you could. Throw in our dealership had been told that every order for them would be done by the end of the year. Swag is all well and good but Ford really dropped the ball on this one. There should be some more compensation based on how long some of us have been waiting. Especially when you see others that admit they ordered after you and got something similar if not the same as you. May want to ask people to stop sharing so much on youtube.

  13. Hi i am kavin, its my first occasion to commenting anyplace, when i read this paragraph i thought i could also make comment due to this
    brilliant piece of writing.

  14. Terrific post however I was wanting to know if you could
write a litte more on this subject? I’d be very grateful if you could elaborate a
    little bit further. Many thanks!
