For 2022, Ford is adding the Capable bumper to the Bronco lineup. Depending on trim, available choices for bumpers are now Standard, Capable, and Heavy-Duty Modular.

Standard Bumper

The Standard bumper (above) is default for Base, Big Bend, Outer Banks, and Wildtrak.

  • Material: plastic
  • Features: recovery points in all trims, fog lamps in Big Bend, Outer Banks, and Wildtrak

Capable Bumper

Updated 8-20

The Capable bumper (above) will be standard on Black Diamond and Badlands, replacing the current Heavy-Duty Modular default.

  • Material: powder-coated steel
  • Features: fog lights, recovery points

Heavy-Duty Modular Bumper

The Heavy-Duty Modular bumper (above) is currently standard on Black Diamond, Badlands, and First Edition. It will be optional on every trim in 2022.

  • Material: Steel
  • Features: modularity, recovery points, supports the brush guard, factory winch, and front steel bash plates

If you’re in the Metro Detroit area on Saturday, stop by the Bronco Corral at the Woodward Dream Cruise to see the Capable bumper in person, and look at it immediately in our Riptide concept video.

  1. I ordered the Badlands and really wanted the HD modular bumper that came standard on the MY21. I hope its not an upcharge for MY22.

  2. I guess it will depend on if you have a reservation before the March 18 (or 19) cut off date. So far Ford has only said those before the cut off are price protected. Hopefully Ford will throw the rest of us a bone.

  3. Plus it comes with fog lights, which I like as I plan on installing the ARB bumper, so will have fog lights, wiring, and switch. Thanks Ford.

  4. I’m definitely going to do some upgrades including the Capable bumper now that I’m getting a 2022. Can’t wait to see what colors and trims will be available. 7/15/20 res, 1/20/21 Order. Maybe 7/15/22 delivery!?

  5. I can’t tell if you’re either being purposefully vague with this post, or if you forgot to mention this – either way, is there any indication the capable bumper will be OPTIONAL on other trims apart from the two mentioned where it will be standard?

  6. So now we have to pay more for an option that was once standard? What is going on? I reserved my bronco a year ago. My order went from 2021 to 2022 due to “unforeseen” issues. Now when I get my badlands I’m force with a crappy bumper?

    1. Chill out. You can still get the modular bumper on the Badlands. I and many others are happy to get a steel bumper with fog lights that looks better than the others.

  7. Yup. Converted my Black Diamond reservation to an order on 3/6/21. Like many of you, if Ford changes the standard equipment on my order, such as the modular bumper, I’m going to be annoyed. The timeline issues are understandable. The whole world has the same issues right now. But to change the rules (on what is standard) in the middle of the game is a different story.

  8. I just hope they give it to us my21’s badlands a no charge for the heavy duty, one of the reasons I chose the badlands plus other stuff of course

  9. This is a back pedal for the badlands. The trim is supposed to be most off-road capable. This capable bumper doesn’t seem to allow you to remove the ends for more clearance. This is BS!

  10. WTF FORD!!! I ordered the Badlands in Antimatter Blue and want the modular bumper with a MIC top. I can’t get a MIC top and have to wait till MY22 for it because you and your roof supplier can’t get your crap crap. Oh, by the way you can’t have Antimatter blue any more, and that bumper is not optional. You should honor the orders the way they were placed and not make your customers have to sacrifice their desired vehicle because you effed up!

  11. Hi, I do believe this is an excellent website. I stumbledupon it 😉
I may come back once again since I bookmarked it. Money and freedom is the greatest way to
change, may you be rich and continue to guide other people.

  12. Great blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere?
A theme like yours with a few simple adjustements would really make my blog shine.
Please let me know where you got your design. Kudos

  13. Wait, does this mean the Capable bumper can’t support the brush guard, factory winch, and front steel bash plates like the Heavy-Duty Modular bumper? This is a downgrade for the Black Diamond… or someone messed up updating this page….
