Howdy! I'm a potential first time Bronco owner. While not an off-roading enthusiast, I do make at least 1 off-roading trip a year. This vehicle would primarily be my daily driver, of which I do very little actual daily driving (I work from home). I'm looking at a '22 Outer Banks Advanced, 2.3L, 4-door, soft top, 313A at MSRP of $51,855 + $2500 dealer markup.

Within 500 miles, that's the lowest dealer markup I've found for the vehicle I'm interested in. I could really use a vehicle, but am not in total desperate need of one today. Should I wait? While markups may be coming down, I fear MSRP will be creeping up. If you were me based on my needs - would you do it?

Good question….
I think it depends on how badly you need a vehicle. If its just “I want one” then I would go into your nearest dealer, spec out what you want (I realize order banks aren’t open) and ask him/her to push the button as soon as the order banks open… Will prices go up? Yes…. But if the dealer knows your interest level and something similar comes in you will immediately come to mind and maybe will get closer to what you’re looking for.

if the rig you‘re describing above is what you want, and you want it now, maybe $2500 markup is tolerable.

Good luck!

I would NOT do it. But that's because I am completely against paying any mark up. Well that and I don't like the OBX trim either, throw in the fact that OBX stock tires aren't off-roady at all, they are car tires and if you go off road once a year, you'll probably want to switch those out as well (more $$$).

If it were me, and that's what I was looking for (OBX), I'd keep looking for dealer stock at MSRP, or order one if/when order banks open back up again. I know some of the dealerships here in NJ love the OBX as a stock order, though you'll find more Big Bends sitting on the lot.

The Outer Banks is a very nice vehicle with the painted mirrors and fender flares, but if this is going to be your daily driver and maybe an off-roader once a year, just wondering if you would consider a lesser trim Bronco, say a Big Bend and add Mid package to get the few extras you would get.
This would save you a few thousand dollars and still would be great for trucking back and forth to work and still give you everything you need to do some wheelin’……
Since a lot of Dealerships sell more of the Big Bend you may find a Dealership that won’t be that high over MSRP if at all.
Just saying!
Might be worth to check into, however if you had your heart set on an Outer Banks then I would search up to 1000 miles away, what ever the distance is to not burn that much in fuel, just to get it at MSRP.
Food for thought!

I agree with the principle of never pay ADM. Ever.

You can find a vehicle that you want out there without an ADM, even a Bronco.

I am also voting 'no'.

Visit several dealers and ask them to inform you of your interest in cancelled orders. Consider your budget, and familiarize yourself with models and trim levels, which you apparently are doing. Let the salesguys know what your price range is.

Consider baiting them with possible add-ons which make them money--but which you can veto at closing. Let them think you want to finance it and trade in your current vehicle with them. "Can you put a winch on for me," you ask. "What interest rate will you give me if I put $5,000 down? And I'll probably want a 100,000 extended warranty, too." These things mean $$$ to the dealership, and you might entice them to sell you the truck at MSRP. Then cancel them out at closing. "I'm giving my car to my sister. I don't know if my off-roading will call for a winch." Etc. etc.

There are Broncos out there--some listed on this, and the other, site. Check the national auction sites, eBay, Facebook Marketplace. You're looking for the term "No Reserve," meaning no minimum. Bid low, you might get lucky. Be patient. You're bait to people selling Broncos; don't get baited by them.

I wouldn’t buy a factory soft top model. $650 for Ford’s hard top is a steal compared to an aftermarket or a Ford one down the line. They are going to cost 10 to 15 times that. Buying rag top later is way cheaper.
More fun to order what you want and wait. The big delays are history.

I'm surprised you have not found a dealership that will not order you a Bronco at MSRP. We have a dealer list here and these 3 dealerships in San Antonio sold their ordered Broncos at sticker. Have you talked to these dealers?

The ones I've spoken to (Jordan included) said they would place an order for one at MSRP, but the order banks aren't open so I can't order one. I'd have to buy one that they are getting in to sell at retail. And those they are selling at $6K-$8K over MSRP. But happy to talk to someone who could work with me!!!

Thanks to all who have answered my question. I'm going to hold out to purchase at MSRP and hope that what I want becomes available.

If you're interested in a Bronco , yes!!!! Sadly that markup is low and is like getting a vehicle well under MSRP a few years ago. I will say I have a 22 Outer Banks (though 2 door hardtop lux) with a 2.3 and absolutely love it. Like you it is my daily driver (though I don't work from home) and my adventures are primarily road trips, beach trips and general exploring more then off roading BUT this vehicle has certainly made my wife and I more overlandish and it has been nice to camp out of. There are Bronco Nation events that help with opportunities to off road also. It's been nice in the snow and ice without even using 4 wheel drive all but twice while the world around me shut down. We recently drove through flooding in Northern and Southern California of all places and it sure was nice knowing we wouldn't get stuck. Though I prefer the looks of the 2 door I do wish I had the storage that the 4 door has. As someone who loathes SUVs that are more and more like mini vans and high up station wagons I do like how this feels more like a nimble truck that's like a swiss army knife on wheels. For me a hardtop was a deal breaker but if it isn't for you and it has the features you want then it's great vehicle that you likely won't regret. Full disclosure I like getting a deal and hate over paying and my markup was right around the same, I felt like I scored and got away with steal.

I have an OBX with stock tires. While not the best for hard-core off roading they the job. I've been off roading and rock crawling and even as a newbie have had zero issue. (No airing down either) My son is a manager for a major tire distributor and he has said they are garbage for off roading but are NOT car tires. For someone who drives more then off roading and still wants ride quality, fuel economy and lack of obnoxious road noise they suffice especially in an area that rains 11.5 months of the year I need all seasons. I do wish that someone would make an all season tire that had more of a truck look. The look is my only complaint but have gone with substance over style. I have seen other trims with SAS get stuck and even damaged where I had zero issues. Alot of it is patience deliberation common sense and not showing off.

A few things to consider if you're financing: buying new gets a better interest rate period, if you buy off a forum even with 5 miles the interest rate will cost you more then the ADM also most insurance comapnies do not offer GAP coverage if you're not the original owner. Additionally Ford perks such as OFF - Rodeo, Ford Pass points ect do not rollover to subsequent owners.
@BostonBadlands funny you mention the the fake add-ons, I inadvertently did that with the extended warranties and coverages, window. I removed them then my wife wanted them so we added them back but the price wasn't re adjusted so we got them all for the sale price which more then offset the ADM. We did add some parts from the Ford catalog and window tint but negotiated to get them at list price and by the time they arrived we were able to use points to pay for most of the parts and install.

I am so happy for you! Welcome to the wonderful world (and fellowship) of Bronco-owning. As you conclude your purchase (I suppose you'll drive it back to Texas?) look for good dirt roads to get the feel for it, and you'll sign up for the Off-Roadeo course. Lucky you, there's one in Texas, but you're free to select one of the other locations. Moab, if you have the time and budget (see bar at top of site). Once you get into it...it gets addictive!
A Bronco for the horsegirl3000. Neat! By any chance, has "horsegirl3000" ever done rodeo? If so, would you please message me? I want to share something you might be interested in. Nothing weird or inappropriate, I promise.

I've never done rodeo. This opens up a whole new lifestyle for me. I'm going from a Mustang to a Bronco (hence the 'horsegirl', lol). Plan is to fly up on the 23rd from TX to TN and drive it back.

I once remember paying $3k to get the Mazda Miata first in 1990. That was a markup! The markup they are asking is 5%. Not horrible. Have a look at the new corvette or Italian sports cars.
Eggs are almost $5 a carton and gas isn't $1.80 anymore. Damn, an F150 with nice stuff on it is $70k.
I have overpaid for lots of stuff in life, but the Bronco makes me smile. Worth every dollar, regardless of how many it took.
P.S . I was an original hardtop order. I changed to get my Bronco sooner because of the hardtop fiasco. Absolutely love it.
