What's up Bronco Nation!

I have my 22 Outer Banks on order. I can't wait to get it!! I have not gotten my build date just yet, but I had some thoughts cross my mind that I thought I would reach out about before it's too late to make any changes.

I ordered my bronco with open axel ratios. I live in western New York where we get lake effect snow. I am coming from a Subaru WRX (big change in vehicles I know LOL) where I had absolutely zero issues in the snow other than trying to plow through 3.5 feet of snow one day. My question is, coming from an AWD system, should I call my dealer up and tell them to add the rear locker, or will just having the Bronco's normal 4WD open axel system be just fine?

Thanks in advance!

I can't speak for the Bronco, but I have been driving a Jeep most of my adult life without lockers in Michigan. I also never had any problems playing in the snow. Coming from an AWD to a part-time 4WD, you would just have to remember to turn it on.

With that said, if you ever plan on getting bigger tires or anything, you really would want the 4.27 diff ratio that comes with the rear lockers, over the 3.73. Otherwise, you would have to pay to increase the diff ratio, which will cost you more than the $795 for the factory upgrade, and that would not have the quality you would get from a factory differential... Plus you would have a locker!

Would you need it? No. Should you get it? I would recommend to anyone to get it if they ever plan to do any upgrades to the vehicle, just for the diff ratio alone! Having the rear locker would be a pleasant bonus.

YO, welcome to BN!

I also live in an area that is like that and I have had no issues without having lockers. It would depend on what you would want to do off roading. Lockers are great tools if used the right way. I'm unsure if you would need a locker but you might, It's better to have one and not need it then needing one and not having it.

I agree better have it and not need it. And if you are financing it it will only be an extra $15 to $20 a month. If you can swing that plus it adds another switch to the dash.

For what it is worth, I have a rear locker on my F-150, comes in handy for pulling people out of the snow. Particularly useful when half of my wheels are on the road and half are off the road.

I’m in Virginia and still went with the 4.27. “It just makes common sense”

I'd add the rear lockers. Better to have them.

A rear locker on a mostly street driven Bronco isn't necessary but if you live in a snowy region it would be nice to have. Your Bronco will go just fine without it but should you ever have a scenario where you're trying to get someone unstuck, get stuck yourself or maybe have to go up a steep, slippery driveway, it can be beneficial. Necessary? No, not really because at the end of the day the Bronco is a perfectly capable 4x4, but still nice to have, kind of like heated seats.
