I have had several EB's, or Gen1's in my day, I just love the way they look. Being in Knoxville and seeing all the super celebration rides show up has my juices flowing! Anyway, my wife and I have quadruplets who are all going off to college this fall. I want to get a Gen6 this summer so the wife and I can do some overlanding once we are empty nesters. (so weird to think about!) This is my question. Are there any 2 door guys who regret not getting a bigger ride? I am mainly concerned with storage behind the rear seats. I really want a 2 door, but I do fear the lack of storage. I intend to get a roof rack and put a clam-shell tent of some kind up there, so that might limit up-top storage also. Anyway, just thinking through some stuff, thought I'd ask the brain trust for your $.02
Thanks, as always!

And the 2Dr owners always complain when they make accessories for the 4Dr- and there is none for the 2Dr version.

thats ok, when I market my slide out bed platform, I won't make a crew cab version.😝

Ford only made the crew cab version because Jeep did, if there was no crew cab Jeep, then Ford would have only built 2 door and sold every single one with no problem.
Ford is not the only car maker guilty of funnelig everyone into cookie cutter cars with no identity and ignoring the desires and needs of singles and DINKs,/empty nesters.

Some, incorrectly call it religious zeal, its actually passion and enthusiasm they don't understand,. We want to maintain icons, they rather erase history and apply iconic names to bland soulless appliances.

Thats' just economics since 70% of Broncos on the road are 4-doors according to Ford.

I would say that you need to determine what you need. Frankly, there's a lot of religious zeal about the choice, especially from the 2-door crowd who think that Bronco's should only be 2-doors because that's the way the EBs were. They have the same argument over on the Jeep boards. "REAL Jeeps have flat fenders!". Personally, I have the 4-door for my wife and I. I like the extra room, and I like the ride better, AND I spend some time running in the desert. But that's me. You need to determine what's right for you. I think that for overlanding, where you have to haul more gear, you might enjoy the extra space. On a related note, have you considered an off-road trailer instead of a rooftop tent? There are some advantages there, not the last of which is that you can then go with the 2-door if you prefer the looks and still haul all your overlanding stuff.

The only point you make that I would even start to argue with is that the 4 door has a better ride.... While in the past I would have agreed with that.... Not now. Not this 2 door. I honestly think the ride in the Bronco 2 door is every bit as good as the ride in the 4 door. This is the FIRST vehicle I ever would have said that.... But I must also admit that I did not have very much seat time before changing the suspension, and these coil overs are like a whole other level. It rides as plush as my grandmothers 72 Eldorado but signifcantly more controled than that big old boat.

OK, well, I think you're comparing apples to oranges then since you changed the suspension. Load up a 4-door with some Icon coil-overs and see what a smooth ride REALLY feels like! LOL Again, a lot depends on the terrain. Here in LA the freeways are death on short wheel base vehicles.

I think the 4 door rides exceptionally well.... I like the 4 doors.... I am just suggesting not to discount the 2 door ride. It seems vastly improved over previous short wheel base vs long wheel base. Out of the box it surprised the hell out of me. Typically a short wheel base has been all over the place. Much harder to control and much jumpier than any longer wheel base set up the same. That just was not my experience with this short wheel base.

NO WAY is the ride in a 2 door better than a 4 door.... I am only suggesting there really does not seem like much of a difference with the gen 6 Bronco.... And well.... That does surprise me.

Hey,, don't get me wrong, the ride in any Bronco is pretty darn plush compared to my old Jeep CJ5! LOL

That's because they wouldn't sell the 2 door in the beginning and wouldn't sell the base models. But then again if they didn't make crew cab models and only two doors then 100% would be two doors.
Fords foulup in the beginning turned away more buyers than they got.

To be fair, the 2-door model was limited by MIC Top production that got out of sync with vehicle production.

Thanks for proving my point. I'm all for maintaining icons, etc. But why you have to put down other choices, is something I don't understand. The 2-door exists, icon maintained. Some people prefer the 4-door for various reasons, and so Ford made that available as well. I'm sorry it turns out that people prefer the 4-door. There's no grand conspiracy on Ford's part here, they are just providing what it is that people what, and what 70% of them want are 4-doors. 2-doors have been available since the beginning, it's just that, like a lot of the beginning, there were parts constraints and they were difficult to get, just alike a lot of things around the Bronco.

BTW, Ford has said publicly that they were surprised by the fact early orders were so heavily slanted toward the higher end trim models. That they were expecting that more people would buy the base and modify it, especially enthusiasts. It turns out that base sales were so abysmal that they eventually decided to eliminate it.

Finally, Ford is a business, they aren't there to shove 2-door base models down everyone's throat as you suggest. They see what there is a market for, and they respond to that market. So, I'm curious, what model Bronco did you buy, and what mods have you made to it??

I think one of the main reasons Ford brought the Bronco back was BECAUSE Jeep now offers the Wrangler in a 4-door. I'd bet Ford's market analysis showed the Bronco line was viable only if a 4-door was put in the mix. It's not the 1960's anymore. The costs to be in compliance with DOT regs means the product investment needs to be spread over as many unit sales as possible. In the 1960's a manufacturer could just put corporate bin parts in any chassis they dreamed up that had headlights and tail lights.

We should feel lucky (sadly) the Government even allows Ford (or Jeep) to make a vehicle that has removable doors and a roof.

Times change..

When AMC sold to Chrysler and they came out with the YJ, CJ owners hated them. a) they were not AMC and b) they had square headlights.. Then when Jeep came out with the 4dr version a lot of people scoffed at them as they were not real Wranglers..

Ford had a lot of time to learn from Jeep sales as in what sold and what didn't.. I am not surprised that 4dr Broncos are more abundant as the same goes for Wranglers..

When I decided to get another 4x4 I knew it was going to be a 2dr and it was not even up for debate or reconsideration. Being a long time Jeep CJ/Wrangler person (I've had several since the early 80"s) I considered a Jeep Rubicon 2dr and the Bronco Badlands 2dr.

I've always loved the 1st gen Bronco's (the rest, not so much) so when I saw the 6G I was pumped and wanted it..

I did not feel like ordering and waiting months or years so I decided to find one on a dealer lot that met most of what I wanted. My search area was the entire USA as I could have flown out and drove back with whatever I purchased.

Dealer lots, both Ford and Jeep, had plenty of 4dr's available. Some that had everything I wanted (expect they were 4dr's) but finding a 2dr that I wanted was a struggle.

I wanted, and would not budge, off of a Rubicon or a Badlands and it 100% had to be a 2dr..

I am single and don't need the extra space a 4dr offers. I can however understand why a married couple with 2 kids would want a 4dr instead of a 2dr...

I don't generally do fanboy wars and think the 4dr's are just as sweet as the 2dr's.. Me? I am a 2dr person but won't hate on the 4dr's either.. Heck I still love Jeeps and you won't see me bashing them either.

Same with my old 87 YJ.. CJ owners hate it but I loved that thing as it took me plenty of places and I have nothing but great memories with it...

TLDR: Get what you want/need and enjoy it!

Well said! The beauty of the Bronco is you can go in so many different configurations in order to have what you want…

Those who hold out for Ford (or anyone else) to custom-build their Bronco to their ”one-off specs” will likely be disappointed, or (like some here), will never pull the trigger on ordering or owning a Bronco…

As far as 2 vs 4 doors, i will ask one important question: will you be taking dogs along frequently? If so, seriously consider 4 doors.

My college age kids ride occasionally and get in and out of rear seat just fine. They are still young nimble and leg room is about the same as 4 doors. I have also ridden back there, it’s fine for a couple hours or so. BUT, my dogs, like most, love to stick their noses out the window and so my Bronco is not their first choice. They still sit back there and enjoy the air with windows cracked, but they get seriously jealous at red lights when we see another dog with the partially open window and head sticking out! Yes, properly harnessed (usually).

So, quick summary:
No pups = 2 door
Yes pups = 4 door
* yes pups = 2 door, no top. 😆
