I just ordered a First Edition 4-door yesterday. The First Edition comes built into the price with the Molded-in-Color hard top and a Sound Deadening Headliner, which can only be used with the Molded-in-Color hard top. I'm thinking this Molded-in-Color plastic hard top will fade over time, like most plastic exposed to the sun, so I opted for the Modular Hard Top - Shadow Black - Painted at an extra cost of $1895. I figured the $1895 must make up for the difference above the costs of the Molded-in-Color hard top and the Sound Deadening Headliner, but this doesn't appear to be the case. Today I went to several other models only to find out that they are charging $695 for the Molded-in-Color Hard Top and $495 for the Hard Top Sound Deadening Headliner, or you can purchase the Modular Hard Top - Shadow Black - Painted for $1895.

So for every model except the First Edition if you pick the $695 Molded-in-Color Hard Top and the $495 Sound Deadening Headliner, but then change your mind and pick the $1895 Modular Hard Top - Shadow Black - Painted your price only goes up by $705. However if I do the same thing on the First Edition, the price goes up by $1895. So they are giving no credit for giving up the Molded-in-Color hard top and a Sound Deadening Headliner that is build into the price of the Fist Edition. Note that on the example above, you have to deselect the Sound Deadening Headliner yourself after choosing the Modular Hard Top - Shadow Black - Painted when in all the other models, but why wouldn't you, when it says right in the description that it is for the Molded-in-Color Hard Top. Is there something I'm not getting here?

FE comes with the headliner. If you upgrade top on FE you still get a headliner but would pay additional $495 for it all other models. It is listed as $0 Sound Deadining Headliner on my FE order with dual tops. Seems to me for those willing to wait on painted roof the great value here is to get dual tops and add the soft top for only $600 extra ($2,495 vs $1,895)...

You may be right about the headliner, but if you click on the info button for the headliner on Ford's website, it says, "Requires Hard Top, Molded-in-Color", so I don't see what good having the headliner is if you get the Modular Hard Top - Shadow Black - Painted. Regardless of that, it still doesn't make sense that when you choose to purchase the Modular Hard Top - Shadow Black - Painted the price increases by $1895 for the First Edition. If I have the Hard Top, Molded-in-Color chosen on any other model and then upgrade to the Modular Hard Top - Shadow Black - Painted a screen pops up that lets you know that will increase the price by $1200. So I still don't understand why you don't get credit for giving up the Molded-in-Color Hard top when you upgrade to the Modular Hard Top on the First Edition model.

I understand where you feel there is no credit for top when upgrading vs other builds but recall that Ford reduced price of FE by $1,895, the full price of painted top, if you want MIC and earlier delivery. Bottom line is you pay the same MSRP as what was stated on day 1 reservation if you chose to wait for the painted top or $1,895 less for MIC. Both come with headliner. I agree there have been many missteps with build and price but I think Ford has been clear and consistent about cost for the tops for FE. Some argue whether FE is worth the premium over loaded BL (can't add factory sound deadening headliner on it) but that's a different issue. Best to you as we wait for delivery!

Great points. I didn't realize they reduced the price of the FE by $1895. Thanks!
