Headed on down to my local Ford dealer today to check out Carbonized Gray. I thought it would be interesting to do a side by side with my Sting Gray Rubicon. After seeing Carbonized Gray in person I really like it. I was sold on Cactus Gray, but after seeing Carbonized, I'm 50/50 on the two colors. One thing worth mentioning, depending on how the sun was hitting the Carbonized Gray it appeared darker or lighter.

I like Carbonized Gray more each time I see the color. For me, it looks like a titanium color in the sun. May give the Bronco Badlands an "All Business" vibe. Not a mall crawler color.

I suspect it may also work well with the Badlands interior. Especially on the 2-door with the exterior color panel on the inside of the doors. Maybe the orange accents will be OK.

I really like this picture. I believe it is the first and only picture of a pre-production Carbonized Gray Bronco. The very harsh factory lights seems to be giving the color a lighter tone. All the colors are getting lighter tones. The main reason I like this picture is how the various colors on the fender flares, mirror caps, grill, roof, all seem to work in harmony with each other. That is not easy to do with many of the other exterior colors.

@BuzzyBud Thank you for expressing that!

I feel exactly the same way! I’m ordering Carbonized Grey...

Grays, blacks, whites, silvers are all pretty bland to me, but the carbon grey does look better, or less terrible, than the matte grey. Jeep does have some very gorgeous colors available tho. One of my distant neighbors down the block has a bikini blue Jeep which stands out and draws my attention everytime I see it. Same goes for the lime greens, burnt oranges, and metallic blues I've seen occasionally on the road

You are very welcome.

One aspect of the post B&P period, which we are in now, is all the “Oh gee, now my exterior color and the MIC roof, coupled with the grill, mirror caps, etc. is going to look like sh**!” This is voiced loud and clear on another forum.

I know some potential owners are saying wait for late availability, or paint the MIC top, etc. All possible options. My approach is to get the Bronco in my garage by July. Period. To do that I need to play the hand I am dealt. In so doing I now see options that are better than the ones I originally wanted.

Funny how that works!

Recently I began experimenting with color choices. I purchased the 3M Wrap Film Color Book 1080. (Please note, my photography is not intended to display accurate colors for your decision making. The pictures are simply intended to communicate a decision-making process.)

From the available colors I selected two possible blacks to match the matte finish on the fender flares, door handles, mirror caps, tires, wheels, bumpers.

Colors 2.jpg

I then selected three possible colors for the MIC top. There is speculation the final production top will be darker than the pre-production examples. That is why you see three different color tones. Each is in a matte finish since I believe that is a constant.

Colors 1.jpg

Finally, I selected three colors which might resemble Carbonized Gray. Since CG is metallic, I chose gloss examples. The varying tones might resemble different degrees of sunlight bouncing off the metallic crystals.

Colors 3.jpg

My goal in this exercise is not to arrive at exact matches for the final production Bronco. My goal is to look for harmony among the color tones. After completing this exercise, I can tell you I found harmony. For me, that is good!

That’s kind of like a professional PMS (paint matching) color match. That is just so Cool!

Are you sure that Explorer is Carbonized Gray? My wife drives a 2020 Explorer ST in Magnetic... very similar, but it's not Carbonized Gray. As far as I can tell from the Ford website, it looks like Carbonized Gray is a new-for-2021 color, that's going to be on the new F-150 and Mustang Mach-E, in addition to the Bronco. I love flat gray paints, and I really wish Ford would bring its Lead Foot color over to the Bronco. In any case, I'm likely going with Carbonized Gray, since Cactus Gray is too green for my liking.

My dealer has a CG Explorer on his lot. It looks similar to the old Magnetic Gray & could easily be mistaken for it unless they were side by side.

Today was a field trip day! A local Ford dealer just received a 2021 Ford Explorer in Carbonized Gray. I had to see it with my own two eyes. I liked it. Actually, I liked it a lot! They also had a 2020 Ford Explorer in Magnetic Gray so I was able to see the difference between the two colors. I brought along my 3M color samples and found Magnetic was similar to the 3M color, 1080-G211 Gloss Charcoal Metallic and the Carbonized was similar to the 3M color, 1080-G201 Gloss Anthracite. I will add that I like the metallic feature in the paint. Similar to the OP's initial pics, I attached a few more pics for your viewing pleasure.

As a side note, that Explorer came with the 2.3L 3ngine. My 2 door Bronco with a 2.7L should have a lot of get-up-and-go!
