Black Diamond sits in a sweet spot for many Bronco enthusiasts. It’s a very capable off-roader with rock rails, rear locking differential, steel front and rear bumpers, and heavy duty skid plates all standard. Also, for some enthusiasts, the standard manual transmission is appealing. We’ve said before that it’s the dark horse in the race for enthusiasts’ favored trim due to those standard features, but the excellent interior goes a long way in aiding its case.
Of the interiors that have been profiled in our Bronco Nation forums, the Black Onyx and Dark Space Gray on Black Diamond is a run-away favorite. Marine Grade Vinyl seats and rubberized floors make for a practical and utilitarian space while you take on the trails and for clean up afterwards. Like the Base interior, the colors are simple, though feelings about the blue accents on the grab handles and stitching will undoubtably be varied.
What you won’t find in Black Diamond is powered seats. Ford says the wash-out interior calls for manual seats, though, given that the heating elements are within the seats and not exposed, adding the Mid package will give you heated seats in the front row.
On the back of the rear seats, you’ll find a fuzzy, carpet-like material that might seem counterintuitive in a wash-out interior. In our recent Q&A with Ford, a representative from the Bronco Team confirmed that this was a design decision made to accommodate storing the doors on board in the 4-Door Bronco. They also confirmed that they are looking into other materials that could be a better fit, but that the current material is what will be available for 2021MY Broncos.
