I'm doing the Moab Off-Roadeo in mid-december, flying into colorado and driving to Moab. Any hints on what the road conditions will be? I'm based in the Southeast, but have driven in heavy snow, etc. Just want to have an idea of what to expect on the drive to the lodge. Will be in a 4x4 rental.

Think you're gonna love it!! Driving across Colorado's mountains in mid December can be mild temps & sunny skies or a winter storm's blowing snow, freezing temps and icy roads. Here's a good road conditions website you should check while in Colorado's mtns.

Wife & I live in Evergreen, CO just west of Denver and drove our WildTrak to Moab last December. We drove through a winter storm with icy & snowpacked sections on Interstate 70. Thankfully, both Eisenhower Tunnel & Vail Pass remained open and our trip was a pretty typical 5 hrs to Moab. FYI, it's not unusual for I-70's mountain sections to close during winter storms. Heck, it closed for a time this morning at the Tunnel, so give yourself extra time.

Here's a BN thread on our Dec-24 Moad visit.

And here's a BN thread on our Feb-24 Moab Bronco Off-Roadeo adventure.

Where in Colorado are you flying into? When I went to Off-roadeo many years ago I flew into Grand Junction.

Thinking about the same time frame but driving from the east coast to the BYOB event. Think it would be a great trip with my little 2 door Badlands Sasquatch but reading about the stock Goodyear Territory MT tires and problems with the snow. Any comments? 35" LT315/70 R17

I've never had an issue with the stock Goodyears in snow. They seemed to do pretty decent for me.

Yeah, GY Territories are fine on snowpacked roads. They may not hold up great in extended use on very rocky trails, but snow & wet seemed fine. Here's a GY at 13,800 miles including lots of Moab trails.

Wow! I had almost 40k on mine with 2 Moab, 2 Drummond Island and 1 Colorado trip and they didn't look nearly that chunked out. I have heard that some have had that issue though.

LOL - Yeah, this ugly meat’s probably a worst case example from our Moab Bronco Off-Roadeo ride.

My wife and I just did the Moab Rodeo on October 10th 2025. It rained three days in a row at some point in the day. All the bronco's they use that I saw had what looked like the stock tires on them. Those tires worked great. We really enjoyed the weekend. We also drove out there in our bronco. TIP if you can hit some of the national parks while you are there. No reservations needed right now due to the government shut down. Just drive right in. We hit all 5 of them!1761144739713.png

We signed up for the BYOB Moab 12/6/2025. Plan to travel from NC see the country side in the winter and will diffidently hit a few National Parks. Just hoping enough sign up so we don't get cancelled.

I have been told by folks that live there Nov/Dec are great times to visit. Crowds are gone, not hot, might get a little snow that lays the dust. Temps are nice. Sounds good to me. Have a good time.
