Wildtrak Rock Crawling

I have been learning more and more (Minus using my Off-Roadeo invite yet) about my new 2 door 2022 Wildtrak. Curious if anyone has found an ideal mode/setup for some moderate rock crawling in a Wildtrak? I am not keen on doing the Forscan unlock but could if there were substantial enough benefits from the throttle mapping/etc.

Thoughts?

If you want a rock crawler, build a vehicle designed for that purpose. A Bronco, even a Sasquatch equipped isn't that. Of course, you can maneuver over some rock obstacles you may run into as you drive off road trails. Genuine rock crawling? Like stupid, crazy, like and subscribe, monetized, Youtube rock crawling? No, your stock Bronco isn't for that.

4wd low and lock both diffs. That should be pretty close to rock crawl mode. The crawl ratio is the same as any other Sasquatch.
Throttle response? Is it THAT important?

Unless you run the 7MT, as it has its own very low crawl gear, providing a of ratio, 95:1

It kind of depends what you mean by “moderate”. But if you are referring to my version of moderate (5-7 rated trails)… you’ll want the following to make it all easy:

  • Manual sway bar disconnect links
  • 37” tires—though 35s will be fine for starters.
  • 2-3” lift

If you are concerned about the GOAT mode… I agree with @EZAPAR … switch it to 4x4 low and turn on both lockers as needed. I actually have the Rock Crawl mode on my Bronco and I don’t think I’ve ever used it while rock crawling. Prefer to manually adjust my transfer case, differentials, and traction control settings.

As always, I would build up to it. Don’t go off and buy a bunch of parts out of the gate. You should be able to do trails with a 4 or 5 rating without any issues on the stock setup. And once you get some experience under your belt, 6 rated trails should also be possible without any modifications as long as you have someone spotting you. By the time you get to a 7 rated trail… that’s usually most people will start wishing they had some upgrades.

Very few people will go beyond 7 unless they’ve accepted the fact that damage to your vehicle may occur. (For context the most common route on the Rubicon trail is rated an 8, and that is the hardest trail most people would consider doing.)

Great advice. I suppose being new to the off road scene, I should not have used the term "moderate" without understanding where that fell on the scale (see first response). I am planning to get to an Off-Roadeo soon, to get my feet wet with having spotters and such. Most I've done off road was trip to Bronco Knoll. Maybe the 4-5 would be limit...since I still have drive my Bronco to work come Monday. Lol
