It kind of depends what you mean by “moderate”. But if you are referring to my version of moderate (5-7 rated trails)… you’ll want the following to make it all easy:
- Manual sway bar disconnect links
- 37” tires—though 35s will be fine for starters.
- 2-3” lift
If you are concerned about the GOAT mode… I agree with
@EZAPAR … switch it to 4x4 low and turn on both lockers as needed. I actually have the Rock Crawl mode on my Bronco and I don’t think I’ve ever used it while rock crawling. Prefer to manually adjust my transfer case, differentials, and traction control settings.
As always, I would build up to it. Don’t go off and buy a bunch of parts out of the gate. You should be able to do trails with a 4 or 5 rating without any issues on the stock setup. And once you get some experience under your belt, 6 rated trails should also be possible without any modifications as long as you have someone spotting you. By the time you get to a 7 rated trail… that’s usually most people will start wishing they had some upgrades.
Very few people will go beyond 7 unless they’ve accepted the fact that damage to your vehicle may occur. (For context the most common route on the Rubicon trail is rated an 8, and that is the hardest trail most people would consider doing.)
