Squeaking Sound on the Back of my Bronco

Hello; I have a squeaking sound in the rear of my Bronco... I think (thought) its from the spare tire... I took the spare off and at the bottom there are two rubber pads (like large washers) that touch up against the spare tire.. I thought it was the spare rubbing against that large washer so I put like a pad in between the spare tire and the large washer and put the spare back on but the squeaking is still there...
I also tried to tighten the large washer since there it attached to the rear door via a Philips screw but does not seem to tighten when I tighten the screw...

Has anyone else had this and figured out what it is? Driving me nuts...

I had a similar issue, but it may not be the same as you already looked at your spare tire. Mine started after I had a 5 tire rotation. Drove me nuts. Isolated it to the rear and noticed when I shut the tailgate, there was a squeak, so tried the spare tire carrier/tire. Tightened the bolts and still squeaked. I ever so slightly loosened the bolts (like by a half of a thread) and it went away. So, not sure if this helpful or not, but sharing just in case.

If you have a hard top, do a test and drive with the back glass in the open position. If the noise stops then you need to lube the tailgate seals.

No salt tram towers were harmed in the making of this post...

This is the exact issue that I had. The squeaking was driving me absolutely nuts.
I lubed up the rear seals and squeak free! Every once in a while the squeak will start to come back but always goes away after applying the lube. Here is what I used - Seal Lube

can u please send a couple of pics on exactly where these seals are.... thank you.. I also ordered weather stripping per another discussion group to attach to the top of the tailgate.. will arrive today and I will apply tomorrow...

I just went out and took some pictures. I first cleaned the seal that is located at the bottom of the rear window and then applied the lubricant. I also cleaned the edge of the rear door. I've heard if you don't keep these areas cleaned off, it could start rubbing the paint of the rear door edge. I believe the edge on my second picture is where you would add the seal. I would start with just cleaning and lubing to see if that works prior to adding the second seal.

I hear it too buts it my kids car seat that makes the sound on bumpy roads when she’s not sitting in it. If you don’t have a car seat not sure what would cause it. My sound is interior though. I’m guessing your sounds like exterior if you thought it was your spare? Hope you figure it out.

I purchased the sealer and applied at the edge of the tailgate upper part per feedback from folks above and the noise is GONE!! very happy... and thank you.. this is a great forum..

I installed an isolator between the spare tire bumpers and tailgate and noise still there. I also made sure the spare tire carrier was tight and it is. Noise started at just 1000 miles. It's definitely coming from the tailgate but there is no access inside the tailgate as it's riveted construction. Definitely sounds like metal on metal contact.

I have a rattling as well. Sounds like it is coming from the back, underneath. I’ve climbed under expecting to see something hanging or very loose but found nothing. Sounds like Metal on metal as well. Started at about 9000 miles.

This is exactly what I am experiencing with my 2022 hardtop. I've tried all the other suggested fixes without luck. Has there been any update anyone has heard besides what's been suggested? I'm ready to sell it!

2024 2dr hardtop, same issue , I have lubed up everything around that rear window and no use its still there.
the only thing that makes it stop is to leave the window open and its gone. sounds like Styrofoam rubbing. I give up troubleshooting it , taking it to the dealer.. expectations are low.
