Just a friendly reminder for all of us, especially those of us that live in the desert and or frequently go off road. Always check your air and cabin filters regularly. If you feel that you don’t have the chops to work on your vehicle, these are a couple of very important items that you can easily change out yourself and save the cost of the dealership doing it. There are videos on YouTube that will walk you right through it. I changed mine about 3000 miles ago and since then have been off road once here in AZ, twice in Moab and they were just filthy.

Good advice. Turbos HATE dirt and dust.

Being a desert dweller myself, I went the K&N route on both. I can wash them out in the afternoon and know they’ll be bone dry and ready to go in no time. It’s an investment up front but with reuse they’ll pay for themselves in the long run.

Good call. This is the first rig I've owned that has a cabin filter. Thanks for the reminder as it has been 2 1/2 years since I picked it up.

Hey SuperStition

So how you like the the desert life, We just got back from our yearly trip to laughlin and while there we looked at a couple of houses in Kingman, Bullhead city areas. Coming from PA I think my wife will miss the four seasons, I spent 3 years in 29 Palms CA back in early 80's So I have some idea of what to expect.

We absolutely love it. We’re in the far East Valley near Gold Canyon - sorta remote but close enough to what we need. About 35 minutes to great Offroad trails and hiking pretty much out the back door. We don’t appreciate the hustle of Phoenix or Scottsdale but some do…

I’m originally from NW Missouri and my wife was born and raised outside Seattle. We both love it here and when you want to see trees and snow; you jump in the Bronco and head North. During the summer heat - you plan your days around cooler temps and the pool and if it gets really bad (like consecutive days over 115) you head for the mountains. My happy place is SW Colorado in the heart of the San Juan Mountains.

My advice is rent a place for 3 months IN THE SUMMER when prices are cheaper and the snow birds are gone. You’ll get a good sense of what it’s like and then know that the other 9 months of the year are heaven…

Thanks for the heads up! On right is dirtiest cabin filter I've seen, and it's just over 11 months old.
IMG_1819.jpeg

Sadly, gotta add: This Fram filter was easily available from local Walmart - Am not impressed! It's very thin, poorly constructed, a sad example of a once great filtration company.

Since we'll change this cabin filter on 6mth schedule, I've ordered 3 Motorcraft MB3Z-19N619-A from OEM Ford Parts Direct. Should arrive next week..

Cheers

Changed ours when we got back from Moab. It was ratty “red”, lol. Changed engine air filter too. Now…I have the S&B intake in my garage, but have yet to install. That has the washable filter. Now gonna look into the washable for the cabin, as mentioned by @Superstition AZ. Didn’t know that was a thing. Thanks!

You can buy K&N direct, on Amazon, or at some AutoZone stores. Here’s the Amazon link for the washable cabin filter. I’ve had mine installed for a year. Have washed it twice - truly a superior filter in my opinion.

Thanks! My son has me on this S&B thing. “S&B is better than K&N!!!” Lol. I think they’re the exact same thing. I’ve used K&N in my last 2 cars and loved them.

Understand. I have the S&B particle separator in my Talon R UTV. Awesome product. Can’t go wrong with either IMO.

I suppose that some people remove their doors and top, but most people never remove them, let alone touch dirt🤣

Sorry, I'm just old school. Back in the day cars came with 4/60 air conditioning.

Cabin filters are just a money grab. 🤣🤣🤣
All I know is that my cabin filter was filthy when I changed it the other day.

Great thread. I just remembered my cabin filter and ordered one. Did my air filter after Moab with an oil change. I am sure the cabin filter will be real dirty.

I removed my doors once on my Black Diamond. I didn't plan on off roading and then I just ended up there. The sound of the dirt rocky road was amazing but the dust. Oh man. It was everywhere. No top, no doors. When I sold the rig there was a bunch of dust in the glove box under my tool kit and documents that I missed with the cleaning. Dust everywhere! Dusty conditions and no doors is a no go for me...haha

I just find it ironic the Bronco has a cabin airfilter when it is designed with a removeable roof and doors and roll-down windows. But that's just me...

But doesn’t the cabin filter keep the heater core and AC ventilation system clean?

Yep, mine was really dirty too although I've almost had mine 2 years. I ended up getting the K&N filter plus the cleaning kit.
I was surprised how easy it was to change.

I don't want to see mine as it's been 2 1/2 years. I ordered one from FORD on the 4th of June and still waiting. Living at the edge of the world stinks sometimes!
