My 2 Door Hard Top Hoist

Here’s a few pics to get your gears turning if you’re gonna do a top hoist in your garage. Harbor Freight has simple hand crank, worm drive boat trailer winch that I bought. I wanted to do a twin cable lift design to keep the top square to the Bronco when removing/replacing the top. The pulleys were found on eBay in a 5 pack worth the money. Just OCD I guess, but I purchased two cables from Lowe’s that match each other and did not use the cable provided with the winch. I’m using tie down straps for lifting which were perfect to obtain the sweet spot for leveling. Once adjusted they’ll be right from now on.! With all bolts out, I lift the front just enough to place wood spacer blocks. When hooked in the bolt holes, the strap hooks were barely pushing on the weatherstrip so finger tight eye bolts were used for the front lifting points. Doubt there is 5lbs of weight on either because the balance point is so far back, as noted in one of the pics. My cordless tools will power the winch or the handle can be installed for manual operation. Unistrut was used for the spreader bar.

I like this. What do the ratchet straps on the glass door side hook to?

When you flip the back glass up take a look at the hinges. There is a hole in the underside of each hinge that the coated strap hooks are placed in. I’ve seen others use a strap around the hinges as well. When I’ve removed/replaced the top a couple times and I am totally satisfied with the strap lengths I will cut the excess strap to make it "cleaner" looking. (Couple pics added here, not room for in original post)
